If I'm not mistaken, the town of Bruneck has a population of 16,000. For the Academy of Ancient Music Bruneck to put on such a spirited and skilled performance is really something. The spirit is just right!

Such a powerful minor key symphony... The third movement is probably my favorite piece by any of the Bach Sons! Beautiful performance!

He was taught to play keyboard instruments and music theory by his father from an early age.
Sometimes I think who was better, father or son? Junior was also great!

One of the most wonderful symphonies ever (in the 2nd movement there's the whole late 18th century) performed with passion and vigor. Only question: why not the repeats in the 2nd movement? Without them, the symphony sounds unbalanced
@elaineblackhurst15093 жыл бұрын
You make a good point about the da capo (repeat) markings. 18th century composers - and beyond - wrote them as instructions, not take-it-or-leave-it optional suggestions; where written, they should be observed.
@VivekDehejia2 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. The Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin play both half repeats in the second movement. Incidentally, so does Hermann Scherchen, back in 1951 (!), and, with the slow tempi in fashion at that time, the slow movement clocks in at a whopping 14 minutes!

Не только отец Бах гений в музыке, но и его прекрасный сын Иоган Кристиан.

No less than Mozart sought him out to be a teacher. They developed a very high regard for one another.
