Wonderful Concerto! Pisendel's handwritten scores are in Dresden State Library, which is remarkable, considering Dresden was so heavily bombed by Allies.

A miracle indeed... sadly some of the manuscripts of Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745) were lost along the way... that of the Czech language sacred motet Chvalte Boha silného (ZWV 165), and the Requiem in D Minor (ZWV 48), possibly others as well...

I humbly ask: is there a true assessment of manuscripts survived these terrible bombings? Of Dresden? Of Hamburg(Telemann), yet...Darmstat(nearly all of c. Graupner's intact//moved by...? Jn

German counterpoint and Italian melody. It applies also to several JS Bach instrumental solo plus orchestra music. That's why this brilliant and joyful piece seems influenced by JS Bach. As I see, both Bach and Pisendel source from the same traditions: i.e.: their own German one and their mutual passion for Italian one (namely North East, e.g. Vivaldi, etc.). Hence they both come to similar target from their own journeys.

When in Venice, Vivaldi and Pisendel were very good friends and Vivaldi dedicated four sonatas, five concertos and a symphony to him. The original scores are in Dresden State Library. 😊

Pisendel was probably a lot more influenced by Johann David Heinichen, with whom Pisendel studied composition in Dresden. The Italian connection was very strong in Heinichen since he spent several years in Venice, studying and composing two successful operas. While on a tour of Venice, the crown prince elector of Dresden (Augustus III) met and heard Heinichen perform, and advised his father to offer Heinichen a position, since the Dresden court was on the lookout for a good composer with an eye for opera. And Pisdendel and Heinichen must have met in Venice during this same time, and have come good friends with the connection they shared with Christoph Graupner (Pisendel had performed opera in Darmstadt and was offered a position there; and Heinichen and Graupner had both studied composition and keyboard playing under Kuhnau in Leipzig while attending the University there). On 28th August 1716, Heinichen was appointed the Kapellmeister in Dresden based on the Crown prince's recommendation. The crown prince while in Venice, was able to secure the appointment of virtuoso violin player Francesco Maria Veracini to the Dresden court too.

What a beautiful work, music by Pisendel. I am delighted with the winds talking to the strings. Indispensable novelty in a classical music collection.
