We have to thank our stars that Brahms heard Richard Muhlfeld playing. Already retired, Brahms was inspired to write two sonatas, a trio and a Quintet for the maestro. All magnificent works.

I feel like this interpretation drags at times but is great nonetheless. The ear catches onto more!

Strange, this is almost exactly how i played it in highschool, i only found the video after i solod it, to rip it and add it to my phone playlist

Hmm. Is this from a cassette or vinyl? I would imagine Leister would be playing A442 or above. This is no higher than A440.

I am playing along, perfectly in tune. Usually I am slightly sharp. So there's that.
@emilianoturazzi3 жыл бұрын
I think he used to play at 440 - the higer pitch is a comparatively recent fashion

I was surprised to hear what sounded like Scarlatti at the beginning of the Vivace

Not the most typical Brahms passage for sure, but of course Brahms had no obligation to sound like Brahms all the time.

I love the playing, but I wish the microphones were placed a bit further away from the clarinet. In a live performance one should never hear the musicians breathing, which I hear all the way through. Otherwise wonderful playing.

This a wind instrument. Breathing is an essential part of playing it. Nothing wrong to hear this, be it a studio CD, or a live recording
@mking7764 жыл бұрын
@@smalysbassoon I have played this piece publicly several times because I am a clarinet player. In a performance breathing should never be heard, unless one is sitting very close to the performer.
@smalysbassoon4 жыл бұрын
@@mking776 If you sit close (or place your mics close) to the performer, you should hear breathing, and the keys clicking. This is absolutely natural albeit not absolutely "perfect" in terms of recording "pureness". As a matter of taste, it can be discussed eternally. Nevertheless, as long as I enjoy the playing and have fun listening to the music, this does not bother me at all.
