Vogt was one among my very favorite pianists. There was brute strength in his playing, but it was tempered with such clean elegance, every note measured and meted out with musical precision and stunning artistry. Stajloff, Kosak, Lewis, and Schneider are perfect cohorts in this difficult piece. The final pair of movements have rarely been played this beautifully since "the old days." We have here a performance of the F Minor that is as close to perfection as it gets. Glorious is not too strong a word to describe it. How we miss you, dear Lars.

One of the best performances of this piece on KZbin. It is clear that Friederike Starkloff has a firm grip on the soul of Brahms. From the tight ensemble she leads, the multi-layered acoustic world of Brahms emerges. Lars Vogt's piano has a remarkable clarity. This is the kind of unclouded sound that this piece deserves.

Tolle Interpretation!

Wonderful chamber music with Brahms and this piano quintet. It is hard to point out the best chamber music of Brahms, he has done so much essential chamber music, but this one is definitely one of his best. Thanks for great playing in this!
