Excelente

I have never heard Lise de le Salle play before this. An electric performance bringing out all the nuances in the score Herr Brahms intended I'm sure. Maestro Orozco-Estrada, with his joyful command of the orchestra, delivered a fresh interpretation of this majestic concerto I shall return to often.

This is up there with the greatest ever performances of Brahms 1. de la Salle absolutely nails this in every respect - technically for sure, but also in every musical aspect. Wow. This is a fully emotionally committed performance from beginning to end. And Orozco-Estrada also leads an incredibly fine orchestral component. Just wonderful.

Why would you go to a concert and spend money to attend, especially on the front row and listen to this concerto with a blank, deer caught in the headlights, look and not let yourself be awed. I am not speaking about perfection. I am talking about composer and musicians coming together. This was Brahms. These musicians did an awesome job presenting the work.

Some other piano concerts I feel separate the piano too much from the orchestra - in this one, I feel like they're much more together and the focus ebbs and flows between them so seamlessly. I like this a lot.
@pamos19492 жыл бұрын
Good observation. This concerto originated in Brahms' struggle to write a symphony. This one attempt he abandoned, later returning to it and making the earlier effort the basis for the d minor concerto. It is to a degree a concertante work, though there is nevertheless much struggle conversation between piano and orchestra.

Born in Medellín-Colombia, Orozco-Estrada studied music at the Instituto Musical Diego Echavarría and learned to play violin there before taking conducting classes from age 15. Before his seventeenth birthday, he moved to Bogotá to study at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de la Compañía de Jesús. He emigrated to Vienna, Austria, in 1997, where he has lived ever since and where, that same year, he began advanced conducting studies at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst. His teachers included Uroš Lajovic, successor to Hans Swarowsky.

A splendid performance by my favourite hr-S, Andrés (he's a real conductor unlike some others) and Ms de la Salle. Also nice to see Florin as Second Concertmaster. The production crew did a superb job recording this performance. They even showed a little bit of the pedal point in the double basses in the second movement during the "organ chords" before the winds come in with the climax. Some of these comments are interesting (I'm being polite). There's a group here that I call the classical music armchair critics. They seem unable to enjoy a performance because they're too busy trying to find something wrong with it and nitpicking it to death, often measure by measure. They ruin classical music for a lot of people. I enjoy watching and listening to a performance -- seeing it is very special to me -- and I don't like theatrics from the artists. Ms de la Salle uses what I call floating arms throughout. Some here have referred to it as "flying arms" but there's nothing flying. They're more like floating arms supposedly to reduce the tension in the arms. But does it really? The problem with that thinking is that it *requires tension* to hold the arms up like that. The arms are supposed to be down by one's side and very relaxed when not playing. By one's side is the most tension-free position for the arms, not being held up (by tension) high above the keyboard. To me, it's a needless form of theatrics but it's her thing. I don't recall seeing anybody else do that. She considered among the best pianists I presume otherwise she wouldn't be managed by the prestigious HarrisonParrott Limited. They only have the finest musicians in their roster. She does play superbly; I could just do without the needless theatrics. One final thing: I wonder when performances will rid themselves of the double standard in performance attire between the genders? Females (particularly soloists) can come out on stage half-naked -- I have no problem with nudity but am making a point here -- or wearing what looks like lingerie, but if a male musician did the same by wearing an elegant-looking tank top, for example, or anything that "shows skin," he'd be asked to go home and change and his attire would be considered "highly inappropriate for a performance." Why is it "highly inappropriate" for him but not for the female who can be showing deep cleavage and half of the back of her dress cut out? I have seen countless performances where the female soloists (vocal or instrumental) can be pretty much naked from the waist up. Guys? They're covered up from head to toe like a monk. Quite a double-standard that needs to be addressed. Danke. UPDATE: I just wanted to say this because I hadn't watched all of the last movement of the piece before I wrote my earlier comment. Ms de la Salle is, in my mind, the perfect artist. She's extremely humble and modest; no hint of arrogance at all, despite all of her accomplishments. She's like Andrés in that respect. He's the same way. He doesn't like attention and takes a brief bow, of course, but he always tries to give the credit for their superb performances to the orchestral musicians before him and it's obvious that he deeply admires the musicians before him. How could you not with these outstandingly superb musicians?! And I admire that in him greatly. Well, Lise did the same thing. She got up from the piano and gave a brief hug to Andrés, then she went over and shook hands with both Concertmasters (she knew that the hr-S have two Concertmasters; not everyone seems to know that or have done their research on that), and then she turned around and applauded the orchestral musicians. She looked extremely humble and modest and was even looking down at the floor rather than "Everyone look at me; I'm the star." No, there was none of that from her. She seemed to be going out of her way to give the attention not to herself but to the hr-S. I loved that about her. Other pianists would be trying to make it all about them. Not Lise or Andrés. They were well-matched and seemed to work beautifully together. I'm very pleased that hr-S decided to feature Lise as an artist. Again, danke. Oh, someone commented about "the handful of wrong notes." What were you listening to and commented on the wrong channel? I didn't hear a wrong note in the entire concerto and I know the piece well as I've heard the Brahms First too many times to count. It's one of my favourites of the repertoire. I did listen to another well-known pianist play this concerto about a week ago and he had a couple of splats/wrong notes in his in those passages where the right hand has those treacherous jumps up the keyboard where the pianist has to closely watch themselves otherwise: SPLAT!, but I just brushed it off. Why did Brahms put those in there? To make it even more difficult. But it was no big deal. Anyone who can play this piece in performance, they are allowed a couple of splats. But again, I heard no mistakes in this performance.
