I remember these being sold new. They promoted them by claiming they were that much more reliable since there was no water pump, radiator, etc. to fail. Certainly an interesting truck.

I used to operate a few of the German built, air-cooled Industrial Diesels in the Oilfield to power Electrical Gnerators. They were Sweet Running engines.

Deutz motors are reliable old bricks that, among other things, built the highways across the Asian steppes in the 1970's. The USSR purchased many German Deutz trucks and photos of them building highways in Kazakhstan are easily found on google. Very cool to see one on this side of the pond.

Holy cow I remember these as I drove one in Pennsylvania it was a tri-axled dump truck and it was hard getting used to the air cooled twin turbo deutz diesel as there were alot of issues and kinda tough getting parts for it I ran for a few months and went back to the autocar lol 🤣

Armbro Diesel in Brampton, Ont near Toronto used to be a Deutz dealer and a Chalmers Suspension dealer in the ‘70s -‘80s and they experimented with Deutz air cooled V8s in Ford LTS 8000 and 9000 dump trucks for their sister company Armbro Construction. Teeswater Creamery in Teeswater, Ont also experimented with Deutz V8s in their Ford LT9000s in the ‘70s. But their vibrations were a killer in trucks compared to liquid cooled diesels. Air cooled engines have looser tolerances in their bearings.

Good forward visibility compared to water-cooled engines though I think an air cooled diesel would be noisy.

I had thought that Diamond Reo shut down in the early 70s at their facility in Lansing, Michigan?
@MissFlatbedRed
@MissFlatbedRed Ай бұрын
No, they closed in the late 70s. Osterland & Giant bought the stamps and kept producing them well beyond then in PA

You could’ve gone into more details about the drive line like the transmission is an 8 speed double low or the engine itself 🤷‍♂️

Looks to be a v8 engine ,didn't see any heat or ac levers on dash. Im sure it must have heater but maybe not AC. Interesting.
