Amen. From Fury through to the end (and to be fair, there were great Grooves on DD), rest assured there would be epic drumming. He had this knack of interchanging brutal simplicity with intricate and sensitive touches. Brilliance!

I do agree, I miss John's drumming, but Trust No One is a decent album.

trust no one's drumming was insanely technical but still not his sound/style. D'amond doesn't suck as a drummer at least. we'll see how his writing is and not just being a fill in when the cowboys album releases this summer

I miss his drumming too, but TNO is amazing too. These days I've been stuck on the drumming of the intro of 'For what it's worth'!

triggers aren't a cure-all. triggers do not fix or hide mistakes. A good drummer will sound good with or without triggers a bad drummer will sound bad with or without triggers. period. he is a damn good drummer

Beast. I have always loved devildriver. I onky just realised that the last album he was on was rhe last truly great album in my mind they did. So just like lamb of god when adler left, the dynamics of these 2 drummers really changed thhe sound of the band. It doesnt matter how talented or skilled the bew drummers are. Something huge changed in the sound thats hard to put into words. Just a feel that i loved. Going down the rabbit hole of watcjing all his vids now. 🖤

I was gonna say that it doesnt feel like a trigger. I mean, yeah, it sounds clicky, but that can easily be achieved with a kick in mic plus pads. And more, if we are hearing the triggs on the kick (presumably from a drum fill monitor) why is there only kick in the fill? At the end of the video you can hear some low intensity building to powerful kicks. That is very hard to achieve with triggers even in a controlled enviroment. You still touring with metalheads? :)

a trigger is a tool used to sound replace. All it does is sense a vibration on the drum head...that's it. It doesn't make it sound like someone is playing faster. Triggers are common in bands that play at higher tempos because eventually when you reach a certain BPM the kick just sounds like a wall of noise, so they trigger it so you can actually HEAR EACH SINGLE KICK STROKE...or you can have an amazing tech like this guy, and not need 'em(triggers). Now stop fighting and enjoy the dang video!
@TheZac199411 жыл бұрын
he uses click pads on the bass heads instead of the regular Kevlar bass head protectors, he also uses the danmar beaters on his pedals. when you put the bass mic right up against the batter head inside the bass drum, it will give it this sound. and as danieljordison said he does hit very hard.
@deathmetalml4 жыл бұрын

@BavarianDrumsMetal12 жыл бұрын
What you're hearing here is most likely the mic'd bassdrum sound coming out of the monitors, EQ'd and amplified. You can get a pretty consistently clicky bassdrum sound out of a monitor when the kick is EQ'd enough. Boecklin does NOT use triggers.
@Villex9312 жыл бұрын
He doesn't use triggers but a mic with some amp, compressing etc can make it sound and feel like a trigger. But it's not as easy to play.

Also, when he does those faster double bass runs, you can hear the volume of the kick drum slightly decreasing. If he was using triggers, MOST LIKELY there would not be any dynamics, hence the strokes would all be the same volume.
@hertzu10622 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Not mention double/false triggering

@dimensionshattered10 жыл бұрын
You still have to have control over the pedals and play the drums. He's not tapping the kick. You cant tap a bass drum and expect to play that way with those triplets. You still have to play with power to keep it clean and even. That is ALL
@Simon531882 жыл бұрын
He uses Danmar patches on his kick drum. No triggers. Hence the click sounding.
@iganbarelytohg12 жыл бұрын
All the people who say he uses triggers haven't seen DevilDriver live.
@stevenmontana669610 жыл бұрын
He isn't using triggers. Even though he has that click sound doesn't mean he is using triggers. I get that click sound when I play, but I don't use triggers. Also Vinnie Paul`s kick had a click but he doesn't use triggers. Also with triggers you wouldn't be able to hear the click as well as you do in the video. When you use triggers you can't hear the kick drum from the back end. But when you use a mic you can. So he isn't using triggers.
@OdysseyDawnMusic10 жыл бұрын
dude dont bullshit. just cause someone says something doesn't mean they're always telling the truth. Musicians lie about stuff all the time. plus I've dealt with sounds engineers at shows and i can 100% guarantee that he using triggers here. there are no dynamics with the kick. its all one volume. it it weren't triggered, and all mixed up. i'd hear the difference in volume even with consistent kick patterns.
@btownshreds110 жыл бұрын

Surprising how he does the bass drum part at 1:35. He only uses one leg in the slower parts. It's easier but when you can do it with 2 legs it's easier imo. Well I think he just likes to do it that way.

Yea, I think devildriver went all FreeMason Luciferian, unfortunately they replaced some of the amazing talent they had. Aside from that I just came here from watching Lars in some metallica videos TRY to drum, the contrast here is incredible, Boecklin is a fking legend. Lars was an inspiration to Boecklin, but he surpassed him by a long shot.
