John Boehner on how the rise of ideologues harms America

In 2015 House Speaker and 13-term Republican Congressman John Boehner decided to end his career on the Hill, his departure hastened by clashes with ideologues within his own party. Now, in a scorching new memoir, "On the House," Boehner writes that those forces are hurting the country, and threaten the GOP's survival. Boehner talks with "60 Minutes" correspondent John Dickerson about the January 6th insurrection, partisan media, and what he calls "political terrorists" who play to the party base.

Everyone likes to blame politicians, but the fact is that politicians are often handcuffed by their constituents. The problem with the Republican party is that has been hijacked by a group of radical constituents whose minds have been warped by decades of propaganda and fake news from conservative media. They don’t live in reality, they are driven by fear and anger, and they don’t want compromise. There’s no room for Boenher in a party like that.

I finished reading Boehner’s book last night. I enjoyed it and I came away with more respect for him and the office he held. He gave members of the Republican Party a hard time but he did the same to the Democrats. He helped reform the House Bank, Post Office, and Dining room which members were abusing (not paying tabs, bouncing checks, and taking money). He eliminated earmarks. He got the Pope to visit and address Congress. He tried to work with the knuckleheads but they wouldn’t help.

The main thing when I think of Boehner, was when him and Obama were going after the elusive 'Grand Bargain' on the debt \ budget. They apparently were so close to a deal. I agree but he does it by way of a book instead of having the testicular fortitude to say it to someone’s face. There have been a lot of useless people in DC but as for John Boehner he ranks among the top 10.
