Back in my day I made out with the hottest chick in school. I mean she was smoking. She told me after she had a boyfriend. Then I really felt bad. I figured out who the guy was, turns out he was this weird sap licker who loved bees. He was goofy. Had 7 fingers on each hand. Could type faster than anyone I ever saw. Thank gosh I didn’t get married to her.

Spoke to John once at a practice in Georgia. When I asked him his thoughts about Devon, first thing out of his mouth was how intelligent he thought Devon was. Can’t remember the exact words but he said something to the effect of Devon being one of the very smartest arm wrestlers out there, if not the smartest. No mention of anything else after that. Nothing about endurance, or will power, or tactics. Just Devon’s intelligence. That’s quite a lot to say with very little, and tbh it’s pretty incredible that Devon shares as much as he does and pours into the understanding and growth of the sport like he does. Not sure if Devon ever reads this but never stop! You’re a special athlete that only rarely ever comes along, if ever in the lifespan of a sports history. The passion and devotion you put into growing the sport and developing its public awareness is literally unheard of. Like a one man army on a mission to pick up an entire sport and elevate its level for the future. John is needless to say, a borderline mythical figure at this point. In any sport discipline you’d struggle to find a more dominant, and unquestionably agreed upon king in modern human history. But I heard a comparison to Ali and Frazier before and I think that’s close, but not quite it. John and Devon are truly unique icons in a truly unique sport, and it’s a modern marvel to watch them do what they do. There’s nobody like John, and there’s nobody like Devon. And there’s no sport like armwrestling. Hopefully someday it will be appreciated and viewed for all its unique glory like other widely recognized sports. But until then we’re still living in the glory days. What a sport.

Everything you've said is correct. A year after this match and a year of me gaining knowledge of the sport. Devon simply had more desire to win in this match. I'm not saying that John wasn't prepared, but that Devon had more desire, more intensity and was far more prepared than John was. Devon's state of mind was far more advanced than John at the time. This may be Devon's greatest strength, his preparedness and his desire to prove a fucking point. Devon's mindset is his greatest weapon.

Devon doesnt have to be stronger than Levan, just strong enough to stop the match. When that happens, Levan will be put into a spot that he has never been in before, and I dont think he'll know what to do. His strength is his greatest weapon, but also his greatest weakness. Devon please make sure you are strong enough to finish the mission. Mission before self!

Why don't people talk about 2,3 and 4th round? 2. Devon didn't try to flash pin John. What Devon did was containment. If Devon tried to flash pin John, 1st round would be different.

Basically how much grip or purchase the person has on someone's hand. So the more depth the more of their hand you have aka you are higher on their hand more in control of pronating. Basically why every armwrestler try to gain height because from that position you can pretty much do anything but gripping lower limits your options, that's not to say lower grips aren't good but you definitely have to be very good to grip lower as a higher grip can negate some strengths of the opponent.

Honest question for you Devon, if the setup and KOT ruleset is so important for you, do you think John would have won the first round with a strict ruleset with a reffs grip? Do you feel that he had good enought strenght for that? I am not talking about winning the whole thing, just round 1.

When Bill set refs grip after wrap then moves to wrists, both of you changed grips, so whats the point of holding wrists when he could have just wrapped fingers around you both and held from the top until he said go. It seemed when he moved to the wrists that someone is going to false start accidental because he hesitates a split sec moving to the wrists all while you guys are applying pressure prepping for the hit.

The reason you got a foul in my opinion was because when johns elbow was up your webbings were even we can all see. But if John were to then put his elbow down, it would lower his webbing and they would be uneven. Wheras if you move your elbow back, johns elbow is then down and the webbings are still even.

Devon 100% shouldn't have gotten a foul there because his elbow was on the pad and his hand was isn the middle. John was definitely breaking more rules in that setup but he's the goat so he didn't do anything wrong lol

Wouldn’t it be a big disadvantage to have to move to the back of the pad while your Opponent gets to sit on the front of it? Gives Devon zero pad to work with on the go while John gets all of his. I do think that he should move some to make the webbings even but how far exactly is fair?

Thanks for the review Devon. Thanks for showing the respect you have for John post-match. I'd have loved John to have gotten that one pin, and I also believe a press or a climb up your fingers could have led to a pin. But in some ways it would have been wrong for him to beat you so soon after his return. Where would he have gone from here? However, I hope he regains some self-confidence. You have to love the guy! And Devon, you are also likeable when you aren't being obnoxious ;)

Maybe the angle of the wrist(fmiddle finger inline with the forearm) should be more in line with the arm. That would force the the elbow back on the pad and the webbing easier to align. You can see Devon's wrist is bent forward to achieve equal webbing as the arm is posted and elbow is forward on the pad.

If we’re talking about making this sport mainstream (which I know you’re all about), the less of this arguing before the go the better. You may say it’s just part of the sport, and that’s fine if you’re happy to keep it a niche sport. Any sport where you need to know such complex intricacies to understand creates a high barrier to entry which in turn leads to not many people entering

6:16 that doesn't make sense with geometry, unless your opponent is NOT putting their webbing as low as they can get it. Then sure maybe you can point down enough, but if they stay low, geometry is going to demand you have to move your elbow to drop the hand low enough to match webbing. John didn't look very professional there, he should have been demanding you grab him. Low guy HAS to. I agree with you about john's elbow on the pad, a word from bill there would have been appropriate too.

Devon has worked out how to get an advantage in the setup, John called it but the referees are just so poor. He puts his elbow at the front of the pad, angles his hand to match the opponent but before the ref says go you can see that angle has gone and Devon's arm & hand are straight giving him the tall posting position advantage. Can't blame Devon for doing it.

@@MrTalon0623 Hilarious, John is notorious for having his wrist curled in everytime, and his false starts. Chaffee is almost always never square, and false starts a lot. Same for Bagent who mastered set up manipulation and going before the go. Barboza another. I can go on, and this is just scratching the surface. Hi Devon , If we look carefully at the first round setting of the arms with the strap Devon you has kept John's arm raised so much is the advantage of your arm (in terms of length) compared to John's therefore the referee forced you to pull back your elbow . There would be so much to discuss on this too, here the principles of physics enter the basis it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leva_(fisica) with the same strength (example side press 85 Kg in both) the one with the arm wins shorter because the force it exerts is transmitted on the elbow (fulcrum) of the longer arm (longer lever) therefore having the longer arm is not advantageous, this is meant for the same force exerted. Therefore I would not only measure the weight but also the length of the forearm, guys it seems nonsense but also the centimeters count and when it comes to the force exerted on a lever the Archimedes principle comes into play "Give me a lever and I will lift the world"
