In the first film, audiences are surprised when young Michael is unmasked because in that famous first scene (that long take where we see through his POV), this POV is the height of an adult. We simply assume this is a grownup because the camera is not looking up at things. It's one of those things that occur to you after watching the movie so many times.

The first film is my favourite followed by number 3, Season of the Witch. I’m glad that it’s finally being recognised as a horror cult classic. I told my uncle that I was gonna go to the washroom, I decided to sneak into Halloween. I was able to see Halloween for five minutes, the part I saw was when Michael killed bob in the kitchen, when Michael popped out of the closet and grabbed bob the whole theater started screaming. I was watching it from the entrance of the cinema, I tensed up when the audience screamed, it did not help much when I felt a tap on my shoulder...it was the usher. "What movie are you supposed to be seeing?" He asked. I told him " ice castles" he looked at me and said. "I suggest you better go back there now" So I went back with my tail between my legs. lol.

Can anyone answer why in H2 they reshot Myers/The Shape falling off the balcony? They used H1 footage of Loomis shooting him in the bedroom but then completely changed where Myers/The Shape is in the house and where he falls. The original he falls out of a bedroom in the rear of the house from a covered balcony, then in H2 makes him fall from the front of the house. H1 22:43 and then H2 reshoot at 23:25 It begs the question, why not just use all the footage from the scene?!?

How did Michael know where to find his sister's grave? Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 was the best of the franchise. The original Halloween is only memorable because it broke the mold of this genre. Though I agree, Donald Pleasance gave a standout performance.

Michael Meyers is the boogeyman. Loomis unloaded the cylinder into him and he just disappears. I like just thinking of the original on its own. John Carpenter is the king of eerie, dark, apocalyptic ambiguity. You can see him as a supernatural force or just a madman. It’s 38 caliber and without modern bullet tech you could argue he just walked away to die off screen. Either way. Great reviews! Thanks and obviously watching these in run up to the season.

Dr Loomis is like Noah, or maybe Moses, trying to tell people that an unstoppable force was about to be unleashed upon them. Since it is an old horror trope that slashers only kill people who are breaking societal rules, Michael is like the angel of Death, ravaging the sinful youth.
@jasonaugustine33702 ай бұрын
I was watching a couple of other reactors who claimed to love these movies The comment that got me to turn them off was why was Dr. Loomis so much more crazy and part two Well, maybe it’s because in part one he was chasing an escaped mental patient who he thought was pure evil But part two he’s chasing a person who took six shots to the chest and a 20 foot drop and just got up and walked away inside of about five seconds If he wasn’t crazy and terrified, he should be committed himself

You guys make an excellent point about how this film invites us to be voyeurs of everyday people living normal lives. It’s the tension between this normalcy and the evil force easily disrupting it that is so compelling. Moments of certain Friday the 13th films also achieve this uncomfortable dichotomy between innocence and horror.
@ThreadBomb3 жыл бұрын
I think Halloween 2 is underrated and probably the best of the sequels, but it's not perfect. It seems to have been shot on cheaper film than the first one (or maybe it just hasn't had the same restoration treatment). The middle third of the movie is a drag, as we watch various secondary characters wander around. Michael is obviously played by a different actor from the first film. And I think the car crash in the first part of the film is the most spectacular and dramatic moment, meaning the rest of the film is a bit of an anticlimax. I agree that Halloween 1 and 2 make a great double bill.
@CaminoAir8 жыл бұрын
I admire the original 'Halloween'. It's lean film-making, but of a superior technical level to most films. I'm willing to overlook it's flaws because of that and the talent involved in making it. But it is a one-shot concept. There's nowhere for the story or characters to go after the first film. Raising the stakes / gore level isn't viable, because it's just an artificially escalated re-thread. The concept has been thoroughly mined by the end of the first film. I haven't seen 'Halloween 2' (apart from the final scenes) and I think Carpenter was wise to step back from it.
@eyes11848 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's the one stumbling block I've had to flag in their opening review of the sequel. It's true, not everyone is a critic wanting to nitpick and take apart a movie. They prefer having a good time and being entertained. However, there is a balance you can strike in which entertainment can be derived from good craftsmanship, excellent writing, memorable acting, and the experience of seeing a good film unfold on the big screen. And not every 20 year old is willing to turn their brain off, have their senses pandered or their tastes patronized. A critic pointing out the drawbacks of adding gore and T&A just for the sake of attracting an audience and not as it pertains to the story has a valid point.

Some people don't like the fact that Michael was Laurie's sister. But for me, it was a great twist and IMO, that is why Michael is specifically after her. In a way, he's the antithesis of a big brother. A big brother is supposed to look out for and protect his little sister, but Michael is hellbent on destroying her. And why? IMO, it just seems he is as Dr. Loomis says, pure evil, and just hates the fact that he has a familial bond with anyone.

Good reviews. Think you are right about the films being self-contained and both films making up the Myers/Loomis story. Think you are underselling the first movie a bit. It is so much more than a teen slasher. I think it is brilliantly shot and suspenseful throughout. Those slow early scenes with the characters are needed. Because it makes us care more about them and gives the film a more naturalistic feel. Meaning its grounded in reality so is even more scary Myers goes on the loose. Have to disagree with you about them making Myers Laurie's brother a good thing. I think its cheap motive which isn't needed. Its more scary the idea that Myers is evil just because. Two is a strong sequel, but still some way off the first film IMO.

I took these two movies and dubbed them together in a way where you can't tell when one stops and two starts. They come together at the end of one right after loomis shoots him the first time and turns the corner and Michael's standing there breathing. Then when loomis goes out and tells the neighbor you don't know what death is I cut out all the credits of two and it picks up right before he goes in the old couples house. Y'all should try watching them that way and you'll forget they're separate movies.

I enjoy the original, and I feel as though if anything was different it would be highly different. I think Rob Zombie's remake was decent, but it didn't hold the terror that the original held. I did like how we got to see more of Michael's childhood, and what led him to murdering his sister. But I also liked how it wasn't only his sister, but he also killed his stepfather, which upped the ante. Also *spoilers* did he ever get caught murdering that bully? I don't know. I did not like the needless violence in the remake however, it was uncomfortable.
