Many great singers in that room. The series is called, "Countrys Family Reunion". Bill Anderson is the host. Just to name a few singers, Jim Ed Brown, Hellen Cornelius, Jimmy Fortune of The Statler Brothers, The Whites, T Gram Brown, Jack Green, Jan Howard. I'd have to watch it again. I forgot who else was there.

Every person in that room has had a record or too. John Cooley's red glasses is a signature look, from a signature song Rose Colored Glasses, they are sodas merchandize after the shows. The all have a moniker, John is "The Common Man"! From the average man's defining anthem.

I have a karaoke set-up and sing at nursing homes around my area. It's an awesome experience to bring a little music and fun into their lives. I love John Conlee and sing Rose Colored Glasses, Friday Night Blues and Lay Lady Down, and Miss Emily's Picture, all of which this generation loves, but my all time favorite is Old School for the values it communicates, just like he says. I wish I had the musical talent to play and sing it because no one to my knowledge has ever released a karaoke version of it.

One of my all time favorite songs. Great observation about older people. My mother was 94 in April; a child of the Great Depression and a WW2 bride. She has experienced a lot of life and is willing to pass her wisdom to her children, grandchildren and now even great-great children. She is still whip smart and manages her own affairs. I am truly blessed not only with my mother but a marriage of almost 40 years with my best friend. I'm truly "Old School."

Once again a good reaction. I enjoy when you react to the older artist, I appreciate your reactions to the younger artist but being older myself I can relate better to the older songs. One country pioneer I’ve never heard anyone react to is Ray Price. Ray Price’s career spanned across 7 decades. He started off his career with the traditional honky-tonk sound of the early 1950’s like Hank Williams, in fact he inherited Hank Williams band (The Drifting Cowboys) upon his death. He ultimately realized he needed to have his own identity and formed his own band, the Cherokee Cowboys. The young artist that pass-through the Cherokee Cowboys reads like a who's who of country music (Roger Miller, Willie Nelson, Darrell McCall, Johnny Paycheck, Buddy Emmons and more). Ray Price is given credit for developing the Texas Shuffle which is a walking bass line with a 4/4 beat. This sound retained the country fiddle and steel guitar and had a beat that people could dance to and was able to compete with Rock N Roll of the late 50’s and early 60’s. In the mid 60’s he adopted the Nashville Sound developed by Chet Atkins that incorporated smooth tempos and a lot of strings. This upset a lot of his fans because he had such a huge following with the Texas Shuffle sound. Ray Price had a voice that was as smooth as silk into his 80’s. In 2007 Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Ray Price came together for an album and concert series called Last of the Breed. Ray Price was the oldest of the 3 and Merle Haggard stated in an interview about Ray, “that old man would come out on stage and hold that microphone against his chest and give us all a singing lesson”. Ray Price was able to reinvent his sound and songs over the years. This is a link to 4 different versions of Soft Rain which was a hit in 1961. I’m sure that country music fans can find at least 1 version that they can appreciate. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6K4ZHqVgbhonK8

The sad part of this is to look around that room and see how many of the old country singers are gone. My favorite John Conlee song is Busted. Ray Charles also does a great version. This takes me back to the 50's and old school values.

You seem to enjoy the old guys from "Country's Family Reunion". You mentioned the looks on some of their faces. I would really like for you to watch a lot of reactions to T. Graham Brown's "Wine Into Water". It was quite a while before T would perform this song in public after writing it. A song that likely hit home with a few of them there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHy3lZWnmM-inck

John has one of those unique voices from the first phrase you know exactly who it is. In addition he only seems to get better with age. Try doing some more reactions from Country Family Reunion. It is a gold mine of great songs sung by some of the best artists of country music. Thanks Don, for all that you do here on the channel.

John Conlee's songs were not my favorites but he came out with a song called FRIDAY NIGHT BLUES. I don't even know if there is an official video. It's about real life, like THE DOLLAR by Jamey Johnson. I'm not sure why no one seems to know it because it describes every relationship on earth at some point. The second verse gets me every time!

No doubt I've heard this guy playing in my house on Sunday mornings during my Dad's listening binges; so many country songs and voices I recognize but don't always know the artist's name or the song title. I gotta listen to more of his songs! 😆 The lyrics here are relatable, having been raised in the Catholic church, Catholic school -- and having a devout Irish Catholic mom. We can instill morals and values in our kids to an extent, but there's no greater -- healthier -- fear than that of The Almighty! ;)
