For anyone who doesn't get it, or only half gets it, John played a trick on the rulers of hell to get his soul back by simultaneously selling it to three different powerful demons. They can't claim it because it would be a declaration of war on the others. That's why John's "tatty soul ain't worth two bits" to any normal demon. It's not worth the trouble it would bring them.

Yeah, he was originally dying of cancer and his smoking addiction, and was trying to find a way out of it. At the last moment, he comes up with that solution of selling it to multiple powerful demons so they would bring him to full health. They did it in an immensely painful way, ripping out his failing organs and making them grow back, but those moments of agony are better than an eternity of torment.

yeah he's not exactly a mage by DC understandings, more of a tricky con man who knows a lot of occult and supernatural things. kinda like the difference between a sorcerer and a wizard/necromancer cleric/trickster rogue in D&D. in a straight fight he has very few tricks unlike someone like Zatana, Raven, or Starfire, and is more adept at charisma based feats and execution which is what makes him so much more interesting because to do him right requires actually good writing 😅

No, he is right. Constantine IS a cheater, and he did cheat here. It's just, his cheating was better than the demon's. He knew the demon used magic to cheat and knew the original hand of said demon. His cheating was multilayered, based on the knowledge and influencing the final result by goading the demon, while the demon's was as basic as it comes. If for some reason Constantine had one of the cards the demon cheated into his hand, it would have been VERY obvious. The only way the demon has to actually prove that Constantine cheated is... well, Constantine own admision. And his reputation, if you bet against him, you can yell "you cheated" and you will be right 100% of the time. Good luck proving it, but you'd be right.

I think the premise is two things: 1) He's playing against demons do you really expect them to play fair? Obviously, some of the "rules" are stacked against him. 2) The demon tried to cheat and lost. If you pay attention to the cards beforehand, the demon did NOT have a royal flush at first, he magically altered the cards to _look like_ he did. All this guy did was restore the cards to what they originally were. Basically, this guy beat the demon at its own game.
