When I was young, one of the funniest guys around was Steve Allen. He composed and performed music, made movies, started The Tonight Show, and wrote over 100 serious books, in addition to being a quick wit and hilarious. He was a "natural". He got a syndicated afternoon TV talk show and would have on scores of the best comedians of the day. Very quickly the show devolved to a short skit and a few jokes, but mostly the hilarious comedians, sitting on a sofa next to Steve at a desk discussing and analyzing "Comedy" and their "inside" experiences and perspectives. Often spending 5+ minutes dissecting some joke and analyzing how it could be improved. All "Inside Ball", not at all funny or entertaining and ultimately boring and even irritating. The show consistently, gradually, kept getting smaller, and smaller audiences until its demise. Why am I telling you this? Figure it out !
