In this video we look at why the front axle seals leak on the 1025r and hopefully demonstrate a new and improved axle seal that John Deere has released. Please be advised that there is different part numbers for different year tractors. Please search for the correct part for your tractor using your tractors serial number. Links below to both parts.

Based on this video, I purchased the recommended replacement seal TR109398 for my 2016 1025R, for $86.32. The seal installed inside the hub okay, but I spent a number of hours struggling with installation of the hub with seal, back onto the axle spindle. I discovered that the Internal Diameter of the seal was 4mm smaller than the axle spindle diameter. There was no way the seal was going to install. After additional research, I found that the TR109398 seal is a revised seal for the John Deere 2025R series, NOT the 1025R series. I have now ordered the original LVU802855 seal from my local John Deere dealer for $106 plus tax. I hope this comment saves someone else from wasting the $86 and time/work on the wrong seal for their 1025R.

First let me say sorry if I caused you some grief. It does however seem that your dealer gave you some incomplete information. The TR109398 is in fact for the 1025r but it seems there was a change right around 2016 -2017 Mine is a 2017 and that is the part I used. It is compatible with the 1023, 1025r 2025r etc. The LVU802855 is also compatible with the 2025r in the same year range as yours. Its always best to search for part numbers based on your tractors serial number. If you notice the John Deere site has 2 major serial number categories. Here is the link for both part numbers, as you can see they are both compatible with the 1025r in their given serial number blocks along with a large array of tractors. » partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/search/type/parts/term/LVU802855 & » partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/search/type/parts/term/TR109398 Again sorry for the confusion. I will post a sticky note to let others know there is multiple part numbers. Cheers!

On my tractor, when it was new, I replaced the fluid in the front dif with amzoil 80 90 weight oil tractor as a 1000 hours and never leaked. I asked the dealer. If that was a good idea, and they said it would be a lot better than the original fluid. I also replaced the transmission fluid with amsoil and no issues there. I used to work with the guys at that dealership so I usually get good info

Oops! I first tried to install front axle seal TR109398 on my John Deere 1025R, could not get it to fit. Then, I tried to install seal LVU802855, I could not install this seal either. I gave up, removed the elbow and spindle assembly from end of axle housing, took this, along with hub assembly and the two seals, to local John Deere dealer's service center. They were just as puzzled as I was, couldn't fit either seal. Then, they figured out that the inner metal band of the original factory installed seal had separated from the seal and was still installed on the axle spindle. It appeared to be part of the axle spindle. After they cut the band off with a chisel, seal LVU802855 installed without a problem. I felt that I needed to pass this information along to anyone else that might have a problem with replacing seals. Cecil Steen.

If your interested in sharing your 3D printed vented front axle cap plan I’d be interested. Planning to change an axle seal next week

I haven't really posted yet as I haven't tested it. I printed in in PLA which I think likely has too low of a melting point to use. It would likely work with ABS or Petg but just haven't had a chance to test it. I'm in the east coast of Canada so waiting another couple months for the warm weather to get back so I can take some temp measurements on a hot day after the axle warms up. Funny thing is after I replaced these axle seals I periodically remove the cap to see if it builds pressure and there almost always is. The temperature swing in the garage alone is enough to build pressure. If I put the cap on when its cold and then open it when its just a little warmer there is always a burst of air that comes out. I'm starting to think the vent is needed...lol

Alot of people are having issue with the ceals ,its a poor design in my opinion those ceals should last 20 yrs , I called my dealer and other dealers about the front diff not being vented and of course they said it's not an issue but when there is pressure build up in the front axle and the ceals aren't up to par cuz of poor design you get fluid leaking . I have the 2018 2025 r .And have found quite of few flaws that JD engineers let go .so sad cuz these tractors are spendy , John deere should do a recall on the front ceals.

I agree these should last. I thought about putting a vent in but I don't love the idea of the hose type vents people are putting on them as I can see it getting ripped off and letting water in. The other stick type vents are one way only meaning they only allow pressure to release which means when it gets hot it will vent but when it gets cold after venting it will create suction which will potentially suck in moisture... Hopefully the redesign helps

If my front ceals fail prematurely I'm gonna call JD , cuz this is crap to have ceals failing in 2 0r 3 yrs .
