Wow, I can't believe it started so easily. We have a pto gear failure on our JD 2010 that we're trying to fix now. Thanks for sharing this.

Nice job, of course it fired straight up, that’s amazing. I dont think they are as bad as the rap they have been given. I have one that has had a few issues, I have considered getting rid of it at times, but I dont know if I can, I think I like it too much. Cheers

My father had a couple of these tractors and we nearly always used glow plugs to preheat and start them.Hearing this one running brings back a few memories especially the drive train rattle and the gearbox whine in top gear.That one sounds pretty good

Really enjoyed this.She looked pretty good after a wash. Read to load some more tomatoes! Get them right on to the market. Get the money! 😀👍

Hey Roger. Sadly, we moved away from tomato growing many years ago. The 2010 is still a handy tractor with the fork lift. We’ve used it for many things around the farm, probably many thinks it wasn’t intended for🤪👍

Hey Paul. It would take much to get the VW going. The engine was running went I put it in the shed many years ago. I pulled the motor out to use it for another project but never got there. The motor is sitting on the ground beside the 7520 JD in the same shed. It just all comes down to time. I’ll see how I go later in the year👍😁. Thanks for your comment.

A friend of mine just gave me a deisel powered John Deere 2010. I am not sure of the exact year of manfacture. I only know it was built in the 1960's. It has not been started for at least 7 years. I did some research on it and some people feel that the 2010 is a lemon. I am trying to decide if it is worth putting any money into it or not. It has an overheating problem but did not blow a head gasket. The friend who gave it to me is a deisel mechanic and he said that he does not believe that the overtemp issue caused any damage. He thinks that it just neds a new radiator.

We ran our 2010 on the farm for 40 years that I remember. It was always reliable and handy. I don’t ever remember the glow plugs working. We always started it with a squirt of Aerostart. It did get electrolysis at one time but a new sleeve deck fixed that. I read some reviews too and they talked about transmission issues. We never had any issues with the transmission. The linkage was problematic but that was as a result of someone driving up the back of the tractor while my father was driving on the road. The car driver was killed. All in all I think the 2010 is a handy small tractor and well worth restoring. I don’t think you would regret the investment on time and money👍

Over heating. Hmmm... could be the radiator but might be as simple as a crook thermostat and not allowing the water to cycle through the radiator. If the fuel pump had been taken off and reinstalled with the incorrect timing this may also cause overheating. It would be worth buying the 2010 service manual if you don’t already have one.

Hi, I have a 2010 diesel that had heating issues, the previous owner bought a new radiator, but on checking, it had a buggered thermostat, I just pulled out the centre of it and replaced, has been ok since. It also has a slight water leak around 2 injectors, i believe I need to replace the O’ring seals some time soon, but it has gone ok for some time, i just keep topping up the water before I use it, but will fix soon. I think they are worth giving some love, many have lived a hard life but still work ok if looked after. Cheers

worst tractor ever built...JD apologized for building it.

That’s interesting, I’ve not heard that before. I know they cracked heads, the sleeve deck is a bit of a pain as are the glow plugs. What are the other issues with the 2010?
@cannotsay55059 ай бұрын
The transmission requires shim packs, one grain of grit takes them out and the gears no longer engage, the hydraulic oil filter is permanent stainless, it filters only large particles and contributed to premature wear in the final, trans, and pump. The pump was open center, not closed like the 3010 less pressure, the diesel was near impossible to start without fluid, the steering was based on 1940's designs, not like the 3010, JD claims they had no time and budget to properly design it and it was rushed to production, note the 2510 and 2020 that replaced it were excellent designs and still sought after.

That’s interesting, apart from needing starter fluid I didn’t know the other problems you mentioned. My 2010 is wines a bit in the back end. I have a 3010 that my father bought in the 60’s it went out in the back end and wore teeth of one of the gears. It sits as a wreck in the shed. The engine was still okay. I went to start it about 6 months ago after not running for 30 years. Seems there is a problem with the fuel pump. Apparently the fuel pumps on the 3010 were problematic.

@@waterloocreek5659 Aging of the rubber diaphragm is generally the issue. But, pumps these days are not so expensive and in the after market.
