John Deere 2025r 50hr Hydraulic Oil Change

I decided to try the 50hr service for the hydraulic oil myself and thought I would share. Before you do it, read the manual.

Getting ready to do this on my 2025R, I appreciate the insight you have provided here. If I may suggest, the oil container is designed to be poured with the handle sideways and slightly below the opening. This prevents "glugging" and spillage early in the pour.

The next time I do this I will slide the rubber hose up like you did that worked out easier. I made a big mistake by loosing the bolt and working off the hose at the same time as I was trying to remove the fitting and the hose at the same time.the tube is extremely soft and I bent it slightly and it has a o ring that fits into that fitting. I didn’t want to take a chance and reinstall it so I replaced it and paid $80 for the screen that doesn’t include the magnet. I can’t emphasize enough how soft that tube and screen is and it has to come out straight and back in straight. Having to pay $80 for the part hurts and waiting 3 days because it’s not in stock doesn’t help

what does the rubber hose do? im confusd

@@rvbzero7 the rubber hose connected to the fitting . Loosen the clamps and move the hose up and back,then when that’s completely disconnected loosen the bolt and then slide the screen out.

think of all the fluid you leave in the lines if an cylinder is all the way extended.

Just curious but do the implements that are hydraulic need their oil changed at 50 hours. And does the fluid get pumped through the tractors system? Sorry if a stupid question very new to tractors.

Just asking as the hoses hold a lot of fluid.

The fluid gets pumped through the tractors system. I don't use any implements that are hydraulic outside of the loader currently. In my scenario it in theory gets changed when I change the tractor fluid. If you're using a used implement that has different fluid or maybe old fluid it might not be a bad idea to flush the implement prior to use. But to be honest, I'm not real familiar with best practices on hydraulic fluid so I don't know that I'd take my advice without confirming it with someone who does know lol.

Not per-se but things like Brush Hogs need the fluid changed periodically in their gear box. People often neglect their implements.

I might take the wheel off next time just to see what all it makes easier for a good comparison. I put wheel spacers on and taking the wheel off/putting it back on wasn't hard at all.

Why not change the hose clamps while you had the screen out of the transmission?

Hydraulic oil should last for many hours since doesn't go thru a lot of heat like engine oil

The real reason you do this at 50 hours is to check for and remove any metal shavings caught in the hydro oil filter. Pretty much a waste of perfectly good, expensive fluid. I'm doing mine at 150 hours, mainly because I'm cheap and lazy.

The real reason to do a 50 hour fluid change is to comply with maintenance schedule set by John Deere. Otherwise, your warranty could be effected.

My owners manual on my 3039R say to do it at 400hrs. I questioned the service manager at my dealer and he told me to follow the manual.

@@casemods Those are probably a bit different than the later versions. Deere did an update to the tractor at some point between them and the more recent years. Good luck getting it done!

I'd have liked to see WHERE the oil filter is located....not how to unscrew it. Likewise how about showing the sight gauge so I know what 'full' is instead of watching you use a funnel?

If you listen to the audio, he discusses where the filter is located. It is on the forward side of the transmission, upper left corner. At 18:05 you can see him check oil level via the yellow dip stick. There isn't a site gauge on a Gen 2 2025r.

then open the users manual. he shows 99% of it and you complain about 1 thing that's easily found on the machine, and another thing that doesn't exist.
