John Deere 2940 Rear Axle Seal Replacement!..We Use Moms Deep Fryer That We Swiped From Her Kitchen!

Those 2940s were great tractors. I have one with a loader on it . I spent many days picking rocks into the bucket and cleaning our feedlots with it . I just put a new head gasket and water pump on it last spring . Besides the water pump and head gasket it has never had any engine work done and it has 12000 hours . We did repaint it due to it being in manure most of its life . Now it just loads feed and plows snow . Great video as always stay safe .

I love this tractor it’s a tough lil shit and will go just about anywhere we use to pull the tile cart with it we use it a lot when we install pipe and wire for irrigation

@@dirtgrainsteel they are really good tight turning machines. I've loaded more manure and feed with it than you could even imagine. It survived a tornado that destroyed the barn it was in . it only needed a new exhaust and a light on the fender and some touch up on the paint .We have a newer case mx 200 with loader and dad won't use it he doesn't like the way it shifts and the loader joystick. Ours is semi retired but it gets used from time to time. You can't buy a new one as good as it .

At work we have an old oven that we use only for heating up parts. We have to weld some big aluminum so we bought a gas grill to heat them up.

Excellent video keep up the great videos 👍👍👍👍I am working on a customers 2940 John Deere it has a broken transmission case on the top shaft the rear bearings failed and popped the snap ring groove out of case . That's one of my next steps is to pull out the axle stubs. I have never did a John Deere axle stubs and planetary. I have worked on big Massey Ferguson tractors rear ends it the exact same thing.

Cool!!! I hope this video maybe possibly helped you out!! Just remember to take the lock plat off the 12 point bolt before you try to back the bolt out I forgot to mention that in the video

@@dirtgrainsteel yes your video was extremely helpful except the one that I am working on the whole axle and planetary carrier came off as a big chunk I am slowly getting the broken case stripped of parts for the replacement case to go back together this 2940 John Deere has been very well used and abused by it's owner's and hired help I know it's a high houred too by the wear in the bearings. I really like your videos keep up the great videos 👍👍👍👍

You should make the stand that holds the axle shaft stationary during assembly / disassembly. I have made 5 over the years.

When i was a JD tech at had a crock pot in the shop for heating bearings that came on with the lights. There's also a method using a torch that involves chewing tobacco spit so you don't overheat it

When first married 37 yrs ago, I made the mistake of taking the war departments large cook pot to heat some motor oil and a new set of timing gears for an 88 Ford 300. Well the wounds have finally healed, and I am mostly walking right again. Hopefully your Mom will fogive you, eventually. If you think you ve cleaned it enough so she wont notice, clean it 5 more times... then buy a new one just like it and hope there were no identifiable marks.

I'd find a Snap on dealer should be able to get 1 stop by your shop. They make a bearing heater but I have a toaster oven that I use

400 is awfully hot for a bearing. You can temper O-1 steel at 400. (Or maybe I misunderstood.)

It actually only got to about 325 according to my temp gun according to the book Deere recommends getting it to 350
