Good one, thanks for it. I have 2 Onans, one 16 horse B series and one 20 horse P series. They can be finicky to tune correctly but when they are dialed in they are hard to beat. They sound great too.

Steve drill that broken head and put a sleeve in it and tap it out to the bolt size that you need. Don’t forget the sleeve retainer to hold the sleeve in place.

'87 was the first year for the P218 series engines. While you have the engine out, it would be a good time to replace the foil backed foam on the firewall. The foam greatly improves the airflow over the engine cooling fins which will extend the life of the engine.

Pull an engine to change out starting a motor... hinkey, strange. Yeah, Yee-haw. Reminds me as a teenager, helping Dad to Shim a starting motor on a 1985 F-250 6.9 diesel that just spun. And as I remember, it wasn't just the solenoid. Or maybe it was (so long ago) he just replaced the staaaarta (New England accent). Enjoy your content Steve! Cool hobby!

If I were to guess, someone dropped that tractor off the loading ramps or tried to load it without the ramps and bashed the undercarriage. Which also got the starter.

I hope you hired a couple teens to wash& detail those cars.the break lines & exhaust pipe are rotting away. I hope you added gas treatment before you paack them in the baarn. You’re a lucky man Steve. Your daughter will appreciate your hard work and love. Your experience in plumbing and HVAC is remarkable, your honesty is spot on. Best of luck in your future. I’m retired from 40 years of working for a great family owned oil & service business, that sold out to big corporations. No regrets, keep on doing what makes you happy..
