Back in the early 80s I worked for a John Deere dealer in Minnesota i was in the combine/machery department they had a JD 4430 with power shift and the shop forman asked me to go with him on a short test ride, he was working on the power shift linkage so he had the so he had the shift plate off and it was winter time and it was working fine and he showed me a littel trick to test it out that could only be done in the winter time on the ice with the engine at half throttel you could push the shift lever from side to side so say it was in 5 forward you push it to the other side and now you are in 5 reverse that tractor wheels would instantly stop and go backwards so you better hang on he said if you did this on dry ground you would probly snap the axels
