John Deere 425 Deck Removal

Don’t have to unbolt the shaft from the gearbox. You pull on the locking collar at the transaxle end and it slides off the output shaft of the transaxle. Easy-peasy...... No tools needed.

Trust me, I'd prefer to remove it that way. This was the second time I've removed the deck. The first time I removed the deck I tried to do it as the manual stated by removing the PTO shaft from the trans, but I don't think this mower has had the shaft off in quite some time. The collar would move, but the shaft was frozen tight. Didn't want to budge and I couldn't get a good grasp of it especially with the deck on. Next time I have the deck off I'll work on trying to remove it from the trans side.

I have the exact same set up, 54" deck, 425 AWS, I cannot get the PTO shaft released. I slide the two ends of the shaft apart, the back half stays on the transaxle. It makes it real hard to put back on. I hate it. Anybody with tips to release that collar, let me know please!

I bought some large slip joint pliers just for this. I hate taking this deck off and putting it back on.

There is a collar on the other end of that shaft you slide to remove the drive shaft fyi

Yes, just use a short shaft 1/2" flat blade screw driver inserted at the rear edge of the release collar, and it easily releases and slides off. Do not need to try and get your hand up around the collar. when I got it off the first time, I used a die grinder and polished the PTO Shaft using a brass wire wheel and also cleaned the U-Joint internal splines as well, then greased. It now comes off so easy.

That's not how you disconnect a PTO!

What do i do if my deck unattached? I went over a uneven area of ground and it detached 😬😔😳😯 can you help please 🙏. My husband is gonna be upset at me .

Sorry, just seeing this. Sure you got it fixed by now. The hanger can break from the lift arms.

A first timer can't see what you are doing for much of the video making the process seem more difficult perhaps than what it is.. but it sure doesn't look like an easy job..

I would do things better if I remade the video.I left a few things out, but it really is fairly easy.

He should have went to You Tube and watched a video on how to remove that deck, he could have saved himself a lot of time!!! 😂😂😂
