John Deere 62C Mower Deck PTO Coupler Repair Pt 1&2

This video shows how to release a driveshaft PTO coupler that is locked onto the hydro PTO shaft. Step by step repair and assembly of coupler is detailed. The driveshaft was off a 62C deck, but this driveshaft is used on many different deck models and other equipment including brooms and snow throwers. I combined two videos Pt 1 & 2 into this video. I will be adding a Pt. 3 for maintenance.

Really useful video! Thank you. Anyone know the size of the grease zerk on the shaft?

JD Parts do not even show that zerk. I checked my driveshaft and it is a SAE 1/8 inch. JD part for old 60" HD deck is JD7842 and I am 90% sure that will work.

Anyone know the size of the snap ring or a part number? I lost mine but have all the other parts.

JD parts does not show a part number for the snap ring.

My drive shaft is missing that little allen head retaining screw. Do you have the PN or specs on it? Length/etc? I cannot find it on any of the users manual diagrams and its making me nutty!

I bought a used drive shaft and it was missing so I went to JD parts and they do not list it. I am going to take one off another driveshaft and see if HD has one. When I find the details I will post the information.

@@gotdeeres That would be fantastic --- I've been scouring the intertubes for mentions of the bolt. The closest thing I can find on JDParts pictures is 19M7786, which has a comment as "M10x30" - Without having the tractor right in front of me, that seems far too big.

@@JRSkola I have the driveshaft for the older 60 inch deck for a 4X5 tractor. They did include the set screw with a part # M117583 $5.37!! I am going to check if that one will fit the 62C driveshaft. I will still check HD because I do not want to pay $6 for a set screw!!!

@@gotdeeres You've found it! Looks like I can buy it from United ag and turf for $3.87. Still very interested in what you find at home Depot, as I'd love to run and pick one up.... And probably get 25 of them for $1! 😁

@@JRSkola Wrong! The one on the 4X5 driveshaft is a set screw. I just removed the one from the 62C driveshaft and it is 1/4 NC 20 thread 1/4" long socket head cap screw with 3/16 Allen Wrench Head. I am going to HD next week and will see if the have them.

My coupler construction from my Universal Drive Shaft (X585, 62C Deck) is slightly different. There is a spring loaded retaining ring inside the coupler that holds the coupler 'open' when you pull the collar back. Once you fully seat the PTO spline into the coupler, the collar then snaps into the closed position. Thanks for posting this video as it helped me through all the common parts, cleaning and disassembling!

There were two different versions of the driveshaft. The older one, AM132894, was replaced by AM133970. I have another one I am going to be taking apart so I will see if it is different.
