Nice video. I just finished changing the oil in my john deere 430. That little chute under the oil filter sure is a good idea. My 430 doesn't have one and the oil runs on the muffler. I'll have to make something up. What's your opinion of the 455 vs 430.
@mmrbeef5 жыл бұрын
I'd be a fan of the 455 just because of ergonomics. The 455 is a much more comfortable machine to sit on for a few hours at a time. Power wise and functionality they are about the same. Cool factor... the 430 all day long.

If you change the fuel filter, air filter hydraulic fluid etc etc. I won’t complain. I love your videos and I have to do this to my 1999 455. Ps. I have a hose on my oil valve. It came that way. I also have to take off my 60 inch commercial deck and sharpen my blades. That seems difficult. Again thanks for all your help. D

I changed the oil my 455. Got the kit from JD dealer. I used the side oil filler plug instead of the top filler plug and 3 qts of oil. Started the tractor for for 10 seconds. Checked my oil level and the oil dipstick barely touches any oil. Like I said I used a JD oil filter and 3 qts of oil. What am I missing here? Yes i double checked the oil filter number. No oil leaks. The drain plug was cleaned and re-installed. I turned the tractor back on for like 10 seconds hoping it would somehow change. But no luck. Oil dipstick barely reads any oil. Any thoughts on this? Thank you much.

My 455 will be used year round. Can I run Rotella T6 5W-40 all year? It gets cold and snowy here in MN :)
@mmrbeef4 жыл бұрын
While I’ve never attempted to run T6 in a 3TNA72UJ engine, I have run it in my 3TNV76 and did not like the results. Way too much noise for me. I’ve run Deere Plus 50 II 15w-40 in most of my machines for the last 4 years with no issues. I’ve run them at temps down it -20F with no issues. The machines themselves typically live in an unbeaten part of the shop that normally stays about 10-20 degrees during the winter. I have not extensively used my 455 during the winter.

@@mmrbeef Thank you for the reply! Live the 455 videos you made. Learning lots for future maint on mine. I ran the T6 5W40 all summer never noticed any bad motor noise. Didn't use any either. Ran a Deere filter. Seems to work well in mine just don't want to harm it as you know how spendy these 455 are.

Our dealer gave us turf guard 10w-30 for engine oil on the 455. Only after changing the oil we noticed that it might not be right for the machine... what would you say? Thanks!

On the fence 455 or 425? Just sold my big box riding mower. I know about 425 plastic cam gear, its on the list...

Personally I would always go with the 455. Here is a video I did on 425, 445, and 455 specs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYe1fIZjfbqEeJI

Hello there, I have a John Deere 110 small lawn tractor just like the one you have in one of your previous videos. I am looking to restore it, but I kind of have no idea where to start. I don’t have a carb and I know very little about this stuff, I am just trying to find a new hobby. Any advice on where to start, get info, and where to get parts would be greatly appreciated.
@mmrbeef5 жыл бұрын
I would recommend joining a forum like Mytractorforum or WFMachines. Great group of knowledgeable folks on the forums. Take your time and think about what you want to do. I think a mistake a lot of folks make is to tear a machine down and then loose interest because it comes such a big project. I spend time getting to know the machine before I do much. Parts can be had from Deere, HAPCO Parts, and other suppliers depending on what you are looking for.

mmrbeef I appreciate you getting back to me on this. I will follow your advice, and hopefully I will be able to have some pics or a video of the final tractor.

I have a 455 and I was wondering if you know what front and loader I can put on it I want a bucket
@mmrbeef4 жыл бұрын
The Model 40 loader will fit on the 455. Make sure it comes with the mounting brackets and the relief valve for the transaxle.

This is just my personal opinion but I like to put a little oil in the oil filter and roll it around to get all the pleading inside of the filter wet with oil so it helps the machine generator oil pressure just a little bit faster on Startup the way I see it they can't hurt it any
@mmrbeef5 жыл бұрын
I used to do that... just got tired of the mess it occasionally creates.
@jazagumo3 жыл бұрын
I changed my oil today and got concerned because it was black not clear on the dipstick after I changed it. I thought maybe I didn't get all the old oil out. But your dipstick also is very black so I guess that's typical.
@mmrbeef3 жыл бұрын
Any diesel engine with more than about 100 hrs on it will have black oil. It is just the result of soot in the oil. You will never get all the old oil out so it will turn black as soon as it circulates through the engine.

@@mmrbeef Thanks. I was worried that I might have to redo the oil change.

Have you every adjusted the valves? My 748 has 400 hours on it and i have not done the valves. Your opinion Sir
@mmrbeef5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think there is a 455 video of mine that shows a little of that. The concept would be the same for the X748. As for needing to... It should not need it yet but I know a few people that have done it and the valves were a little off with 250-500 hrs. I think if it is running fine I wouldn't mess with success. If you bust one of the gaskets on the valve cover I think they are in the range of $70... IIRC.

I think your numbers are off I'm at 10 minutes 53 seconds into your video and you said 12 pumps per quart and your machine takes three quarts you pumped in 50 pumps it should have only took 36 12 24 36 extra 3 quarts otherwise pretty good video

why would the JD engineers design the motor with two oil fill ports?
@mmrbeef3 жыл бұрын
Yanmar designed the engine. This engine has many applications for both Deere and other manufactures. It’s easier to design two full ports to ensure at least one is accessible in every application.
