One of the best performing tractors ever in a competitive era. They left the independent University of Nebraska tractor test facility with the highest drawbar pull for a row crop and most horsepower hour's per gallon and quietest cab honors.

One of my fav tractors. Bought one in 1998 with 1000 hours and used it for planting and pulling a 500 bu grain cart. Times changed and due to lots of irrigation we had to move to a 1200 bu grain cart with a 9460r, but still think about the days with my 4955.

@@bigtractorpower But on the other hand, if I've bought a new piece, you better believe I'm using it rather than letting it just look nice in the shed. If its leased, maybe a different story to reserve some hours but again, if I'm paying on something, it's going to have to earn its keep. I used to lease and purchase industrial equipment and we used it hard and constantly.

Tractors today are equiped with technology for more precise farming in the field. However, that technology is costly. Watching an older tractor working the field is refreshing. It just has this amazing feel to it. I love both older and modern tractors, but technology has changed pretty much everything. If you're a farmer using older equipment, you might not be looked upon as favorably as your neighbor down the road who is utilizing the latest greatest technologically advanced tractors. Personally, I prefer the best of both worlds. One can mount most any technology on an older model tractor and keep up with the modern stuff. Its less expensive, but that's a relative term. Since pretty much everything we do on our farms & ranches is expensive. Very nice video showcasing some old iron at work......🚜

God damn we had a 4755 2wd sold it in 2012 for a 7200R the R is so much more advanced and comfy. But in the time we owned it its had so many little electric problems. The 4755 had an over haul and had a knock in the rear end when we sold it. I really want another one when the 4755 was super reliable for what we were asking of it

With this tractor and cart setup, would you need to have the front wheel assist on all the time or just in muddy conditions? Seems like there is a lot of weight on the draw bar which would add traction.

On a dry day it is most likely set on 2wd. The 4wd feature would be used in wet conditions, hills or heavier tillage.

I was watching a video preview on here from a company in Britain about the 55 series tractors that were available there. Their 4955 looks more like the US 4960, side mounted exhaust and all. Do you know if their 4955 is simply a relabeled 4960?
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 4 жыл бұрын
The 4850, 4955 and 4960 are all very similar. The key difference on a 4960 is the right side mounting of the muffler in the cab. Some time I will make a video discussing the upgrades from 40 to 50 to 55 to 60. The European 4955 has do with regulations and import costs as to why it remained the same model number.

Yes until the 215 hp Magnum 7150 2 years later. Interesting hp from 1972-1993 sat at the 175-215 hp mark with 180 hp being the most common rating on big row crops. Then from 1994-2019 it was off to the races jumping from 225 hp to 235 hp in 1999 then to 250 hp to 275 hp to 305 hp to 335 hp to 380 hp to 400 hp in recent years.

Why is there no John Deere, Case-IH, or other tractor companies with their name on grain carts? I know JD did many years ago, but no newer machines. You would think it would be a big market share, they are used all over this country.
