Message from Petra's Husband, Great video and very informative, I have an JD 855 on my farm block in New Zealand. Your video has given me the tech info to fix much the same issues. Will put this information to use and I enjoyed your presentation.

Just about every hydraulic system has a filter and a screen. Filter = post pump. Screen = Return to sump.

I have an 855 that was my grandfather's and I am 0% mechanical, but these videos are a life-saver for me! I didn't know that there was a linkage that adjusted the hydraulics so that the pump wouldn't headhead when you lifted it too high. Also didn't know that it was called deadheading! And I just went out and looked and the linkage is bent on my tractor, which may explain why it does that, and also will make it hard to fix... but thank you for teaching me something I didn't know and how to fix it!! The horrible sound it makes when I lift the three-point hitch too high kills me, and now I know how to (eventually) make it go away. :)

Hey there Marshall. Absolutely phenomenal instruction and priceless information. Gotta 855 “Garage Queen” I inherited from my dad. Only 400 (something) hours on it. Like Brand New. Never had any issues with it but the information you so expertly conveyed here will certainly come in handy for both preventive maintenance AND repair/diagnosis of any future issues. Please generate more videos like this for the JD 55 Series. I learned more in that 25 mins than the past 3 years of owning that 855. Thank you SO much 🙏 You really are fantastic at conveying information/theory/procedures!

Oh wow sounds like you’ve e had it since new ! Yep there’s an adjustment at the hydrostatic pump and the mechanical levers that connect to the pedals. It came out of its neutral position. Good luck I haven’t done a video on that yet ! And yes You-Tube is the best for how to videos Thanks for the comment ! Also If I remember right🤔there are return springs to return the pedals to the neutral position also that could be broke if the pedal is staying forward when you release your foot off! @marshallsanders5672
@marshallsanders5672 3 ай бұрын
It’s definitely NOT anything hydraulic! If the rear tires are spinning it’s getting hydraulic input to the Transmission and power to the rear wheels. There is a 4wd lever on the left of the seat, mess with that lever and check for positivity in the engagement to 4wd. Need to check and see if the front driveshaft (to the front differential) will turn free with the front tires off the ground in 4wd. It’s either still something int the front differential or the transmission itself isn’t transmitting power to the front driveshaft to power the front wheels.

Marshall, I am a single owner of a 955🥸 tractor that I purchased in 1998 I live south of Rochester, New York I hooked up the 6foot bush hog for the annual mowing The bush hog turns, but the top-end speed appears slow - it turns but will not cut grass Usually, when I engage the PTO for the bush hog, it has an aggressive engagement that makes the tractor lung a little when the bush hog engages - not today The PTO shaft turns but not enough to cut grass Questions 1. I don’t know if it’s the tractor or the bush hog (the bush hog has been sitting outside year-round for the last 24 years) - Do you have any ideas? 2. How to check the PTO RPM 3. In your video, you had a gauge with a hydraulic fitting to check the hydraulic pressure - please share model numbers and purchase source for each. Thank you in advance for your help 🤓

Jim, It is the specific Blade for the tractor. John Deere calls it a DOZER Blade. I have yet to find a Model number for it. The plate has only a Serial # and says DOZER on it! It is quite the apparatus as it is long and connects all the way to the middle of the tractor and also has pressure relief valve body built into it so if the blade jammed it will relieve pressure before blowing out a cylinder. I use it so much it just stays on the tractor these days. I have a deck mower also but i use the blade so much I don't use it! Good luck finding one you wont regret buying it . I can Comment you the Serial # if you think that may help you find one?

Oh wow, That sounds very much like its starving for oil but not completely starved like mine was. Best thing to do is Pull the drain plug and see how much oil is FREE FLOWING out. 5 min. into the video shows where mine was BARELY flowing out which indicated the restriction that I had. Also Make sure you have the proper WEIGHT hydraulic oil, These Hydrostatic John Deere's take HY GUARD (Low Viscosity) Hydraulic oil in the transmission. If someone put to THICK or HIGHER VISCOSITY oil in it can cause the issue your having.

Hey Marshall, Great video! I have a 755 also, just bought it about ten months ago so I'm still learning a lot about it. One question I have is regarding the Rock Shaft. I have adjusted the drop rate with the hand valve like you showed, and have that where I want it, but my lever to set the rock shaft is either all the way up, or all the way down. I have to use a piece of wire wrapped around the ROPS to keep the rock shaft up, otherwise it falls all the way down. There is no stopping and leaving the lever anywhere between all the way up or all the way down, except for holding it in position by hand or using the little cam stop thing that isn't effective at holding it from falling to the all the way down position. Is there an adjustment for that lever that controls the rockshaft so that it will stay in a position between full up and all the way down? Thank You!
@marshallsanders5672
@marshallsanders5672 Жыл бұрын
Rick, Good afternoon great question. There are no other Rockshaft adjustments except for the two I showed in my video. With that said we can narrow down the cause of it and correct it ! First off did you make sure the second adjustment I showed is correct as in when in the full raise position there is about An inch of free travel with the Rockshaft arms ? Using the turnbuckle to adjust it. Make sure this adjustment is correct before proceeding. 2) When in the lowered position when you move the lever to say half travel up does it move up half way and then just fall back down or does it not raise at all unless you go to the full raise position ? Does it hold itself in the full raise position ? Let me know about these questions and we’ll go from there !

@@marshallsanders5672 Hey Marshall, Finally got a chance to get in and take a closer look at the Rockshaft on my 755. I checked the full-raised position, and there is at least an inch, probably more like two inches of free travel in the Rockshaft arms. I also took off the plastic guide that the Rockshaft lever rides in. It is cracked in a couple of spots, the cam lever was rusted up and not locking down, and the lever itself was bent up from 35 years of use. I repaired the plastic guide piece, cleaned up the cam piece, and straightened out the lever. By doing those things, it seems the arms are stopping and holding wherever I stop the lever. I never adjusted the turnbuckle, so it must be just the tension of the lever against the plastic guide that is keeping it wherever I leave the lever. Before it felt as if there was a spring taking the lever back to the full down position everytime I let go of the lever, or when I didn't have it wired to the ROPS to keep it from falling down.
@marshallsanders5672
@marshallsanders5672 Жыл бұрын
Ok that makes sense ! Sounds like you Gottr’ fixed so to speak and generally that’s what matters. And if you need the arms to go up higher you can just adjust the turnbuckle shorter til you have an inch or so of play ! Good stuff !

@@climbhightreeservice2153 Yes O/D IS 4th gear. If the computer is COMMANDING 4th gear and its revving out something must be wrong inside. Might be worthwhile to pull valvebody and Air check O/D clutch. Also drive it till it revs out, cancel O/D on the stalk button and see if it just shifts to third and holds 3rd. If it does there must be a leak in O/D oil circuit somewhere. The weld on the O/D drum may have broke I’ve seen that on 4R100’s stamped steel drums

One of the problems with the primary filter is that is gets clogged when water enters the system. Just like the diesel fuel it will gel and clog the filter. Just changing the fluid is not the cure because it WILL clog again. Ask me how I know...LOL Take the back off the transmission and clean and dry it out...or you can put some diesel anti gel treatment in the system.
