I just stumbled across this old video with my morning coffee. You may not be monitoring comments here, but this might help a future viewer. When cutting out old welds, I use the same process, but have stopped hammering to flex and break the last bit of bead... Instead, I use as big of a pipe wrench as I can fit slipped over the plate and a cheater bar to apply force. No more marring parts, and it often breaks free in seconds since leverage (long cheaters are best!) replaces brute force. Hope that helps someone's project out there. Cheers!
@digdrivediy3 жыл бұрын

Just wanted to thank you again for this great video. I have seen I think all of the you tube videos on converting a pin loader to QD. Your video by far gave me the inspiration to do my 1988 950. The project was a little more complicated than I expected because my 950 pin width is 44 1/2” .The pin brackets were curved and not flat and straight. The inside distance from the two pins was 3 3/4”. The QD I purchased was not wide enough for my brackets to fit so I had to add an additional 4” piece to my QD. 0:36 I’ll try and send some pics of the build if I can figure out how to. Bottom line , it works great and I would do it again. Just wondering why I waited so long. Thanks again , Larry.

A clamp on the bucket while you hit it will keep it from moving or tack it to the table. Plasma gouging would work for taking welds out, or scarfing with Oxy fuel. Both would be way faster than a cutoff wheel. But good informative video.

Off topic question but imasking cause you seem to know how to fix things on tractor..i have a new farmtrac 25hp tractor..while using front loader latch came loose and it warped the quich attach..now both side wont attch or lock down,,i have seen some vids about cutting in center and rewelding etc,,i did use a tree and managed to get it almost back to normal but still only one side will lock,,are their aftermarket kits i can buy to replace the damaged one or at last resort i have thought about since brackets are almost back to normal just tack weld both to loader or drill a couple holes in bucket and attach arm and bolt them ,,i dont use any other attachents on laoder so not having quicj attach isnt a problem..i also need a large hammer like you have,,what size or lb is that thing...
@digdrivediy Жыл бұрын
Sorry about the misfortune with the tractor. It is difficult to know what to do without seeing it, but I do know you have the power of the hydraulics at your disposal. So, there is often a way to get it bent back into shape if you are creative. If you have something solid to attach to, like a tree or similar, then you can often times chain to it and use the power of the bucket and lift cylinders to attempt to straighten things back. There are aftermarket kits that you can find to replace the quick attach mechanisms. Everyone needs at least an 8 pound sledge hammer! Best of luck to you and your repair.
@charliesmith9528 Жыл бұрын
@@digdrivediy I am a little confused about using chain and a large tree..are you saying basically to attach chain to tree and bucket and use hydraulics to try and bend it back into shape or use tree as leverage..probably just going to cut bar in center today ,,re align it and weld a sleeve and go from there,,friend has older tarctor with same issue,,he was able to bend it back close bot not close enough to use latches so he drilled 2 holes on both side of bucket and quick attach,,he basically pinned the bucket to loader with the bolts,,it works for him as he doesent switch bucket oout for grapple or other attachments,,after a month and gradually tightening bolts the quick attch was back aligned..pure old country ingenuity..im 66 and never owned a tractor but am a retired gm mechanic,,what i noticed right away when shopping for tractor and researchng them is how DANGEROUS even the small compacts can be,,especially for people who disconnect the kil switchs,,,thanks for the input,,hope today is a good one,,pray for our country

Great video, Neil! I'm looking to buy the quick attach plate for my JD755 bucket. It looks like the link to the plate is no longer working. eBay can't find it, but they do have other versions. What thickness is the plate you used for Kleeman's bucket? I'm seeing 1/2, 3/8 1/4, and 5/16 available.

@digdrivediy2 жыл бұрын
I would probably have to have a solid look at it but I suppose you can mount the flat plate on the back and just gusset it up to match the curve. Gonna be tricky to relocate the weldments on the back though. That curve does introduce quite a challenge.

Wouldn’t it have been easier to go buy the already made adapter? Your solution moves the quick attach out 2” just like they do? Great welds by the way, you did do a great job, just seems like a lot of work for something that already exists.
@digdrivediy3 жыл бұрын
Oh, it certainly would have been easier, but also more expensive is all. The other thing to consider is even if I bought the quick attach adapter, I still wouldn't have a bucket that would work with it. You are left with the option of either purchasing a completely new bucket or modifying the one you have. I felt this killed two birds with one stone and saved myself about $1000 or more if I had to buy the quick attach and a new bucket. Thanks for watching!

A sawzall with a long best quality blade will take those brackets off fairly easily.

That's a good idea David. Need to try that one.

Very informative video. I understand the objective, the process and what to measure & diagram before trying to do this myself, but there is one thing I'm a little confused about. I want to do this for my Mahindra 24 Max. But how does this work universally for every sub/compact tractor? Are the loader arms the same width for every sub-compact/compact tractor. Just not sure how after doing this I can mate up to every QA implement for any model/manufacturer if its QA ready. Wouldn't the loader arm width affect fitment? I'm recently new to tractor ownership (just purchased a 2017 with 80 hrs) so this might seem like an obvious answer. Thanks.

The loader arm width can affect fitment, so you must ensure that you attach the quick attach plates in a way that creates the correct distance between the plates. You may need to adjust where your loader arms attach to the quick plates in order to produce the proper distance between them. So, the plate that I welded to the back of my bucket is the standard QA mounting plate. That width is universal and dictates how far apart the QA mounts must be. You will need to attach them to your loader arms in such a way that achieves that distance. I can measure that on mine or you can likely find that distance online. I hope that makes sense. Somewhat hard to explain in type.

@@digdrivediy So I think I understand your REPLY. The 2 adapters parts on EBay you have listed in the comments of this video are sized to the "standard" universal QA. If I create a loader arm frame to align with my loader arms, but yet weld the QA plates so that I keep that standard distance for the QA, everything will align for all standard QA attachments. Did I get that right?
@digdrivediy3 жыл бұрын
@@jdimeo1966 Yes, that is correct. Just make sure the QA adapters are the correct distance apart and then attach to your loader arms however you can in order to maintain that distance.

Hi I am purchasing a John Deere 955 this weekend, I was wondering if you would build me a skid steer quick attach for the bucket? If so I am located in VT and will pay for your time and shipping.

I'm sorry I don't have the time to do that at the moment. However there is a guy selling them online. He is on a 755,855,955 Facebook group. If you can't find him let me know and I'll look up a link to his adapters.

I don't think you mentioned it, but did you reverse the plates on each side so the boss that receives the retaining pin is on the outside of the bucket? I was looking at my bucket and the long pin bosses are on the inside plates. Reversing the plates would give a little more clearance to the bolts.

Wow, good eye! Yes, you are exactly right David. I didn't catch my omission until after the video had been up about a week. I filmed a reference to switching them around and then somehow overlooked it in editing. You're the first person to ever catch it! And, you're right. I had to do that to have just that little bit of clearance for the bolts! Thanks so much for watching with a keen eye!
