Tim, I used to operate a 762 during the summer when school was out. He had two of them. He also had a 412 B international and a 412 B Dresser. He built catfish ponds for a living. We greased them every day. I remember it taking seven tubes of grease per scraper. No battery powered grease guns back then, just a good ole case of rubber arms when you got finished.

It would be so cool to resque the old iron . I got two old Massey Harris tractors that was my granddaddy s . I rebuilt one in high school as a ag project. The other needs to be. I cut trees 8 inches in diameter to get out. It was alot of fun and hard work. Hope to see more of this even if you don't do all the work. Great video and all your videos.

Ran those "toys" in the 80's, 762 had toggle switches for scraper functions, didn't hold up. Both were used on finishing crew on highway job, ran the 862 w the "big boys", when not working w the finish grader, the other scraper hands had a good laugh. But I had the last laugh, stayed on the job to the end, after all the dirt hogs were long gone. Thanks for posting, brought up good memories

Man Tim I hadn't seen a 762 or 862 Deere Paddlewheel scraper since my teenage years. Maybe early 20's. One of my grandfather's buddies he subcontracted for was a Deere Man . He had two 762B Deere's . They were a good machine back in the day . I can't remember if it had the same engine as a 750B & 850B Deere Dozer or not . Crazy how the tree grew into the flight chain on that 762😳. If you're unable to save both, say the engine in the 862 is gone, see if you can't swap parts to the better of the two scrapers and save at least one of them. Then clean it up as best possible, then put the thing to work for you if you can and make some good money off of it prior to totally refurbishing the thing rather than trying to do one thing at a time on it. That's probably what happened to the original owner and didn't have the time or money to dump into it and just got fed up with fixing one part at a time to have another go bad. It tends to happen when companies try to keep a machine running as long as possible to squeeze every bit of work out of it they can before they leave it or scrap it which is just a waste in my opinion. If most companies weren't so damn rough on their equipment and hired experienced and careful operators as opposed to the inexperienced ones that just beat the hell out of the equipment merely because they get the job done fast regardless of what damage they caused to the equipment they run, there wouldn't be as much damaged equipment lying in scrap yards or abandoned like these were.

We do hate to see old iron sit like that, but cost to repair due to cost of John Deere parts can be a problem. Cat seems to be a bit better. Price wise salvage price is around $1500 to $3500. Known problems with 80's and 90's year machines is hose replacement, engine and transmission parts. Now can you make money moving dirt? Cut and fill prices are between $1.25 to $3.50 per yard, this depends on how far you have to move it and what you need to do to it. 15 and 17 cubic yard machines are small area machines.

Can they be salvaged for use again? Sure. Is it worth it? Better just bust out the extra large plasma cutter and scrap these. They both want radiators, coolant hoses, oils, batteries, starters, wiring... and that is just to try getting it cranked. Now repack the cyls, replace all the hydraulic hoses, put new tires on them.. and hope the engines and transmissions and pumps are still good..
