I have a soft place in my heart for the 30 series because it was the first "big" articulated tractor I ever operated. I once worked for a local farmer in the late seventies ( I was 18 then) who with his father and two brothers worked 9,000 acres. Together they had six of those tractors. We did everything with them up to and including cultivation. Two of them were set up with 18.4.38 tires on 30 inch rows. One for planting with a 24 row planter and the other for cultivation. Mind you this was before auto steer had come out. I cultivated a LOT of beans and corn with a 12 row rolling cultivator. It took a little getting used to but after a while you learned. Please don't sack that tractor. I am sure you can find a place for it on your farm. It still has many good hours left in it. Fix it up a little and give it something to do. At times we had trouble with those trans cables too. They would dry out and make it hard to shift. We usually just replaced them.

It was interesting to learn the difference between the two tractors. Thanks for the good content and I’m sure that the shift cable problem was a great relief.

Man I have had an 8430 and didn't know anything about the needle bearings on the shifter I called and ordered some. A friend of mine that works at John Deere in the parts has 2 and didn't know about them so he ordered his with mine. My dad always said you learn something new every day thanks again

I enjoyed watching your video. I came a crosse an 8630 3 years ago and bought it at a reasonable price. It had 42" rubber but the reason I bought it was because it had a Kinze repower kit with an 855 cummins. The motor was junk but found another motor for $2500. Runs great doesn't use any oil but when push that throttle lever forward there is no sluggish take off it just goes. Use for chisel plowing and disking. Great old tractor and you can fix it your self.

Another big difference between the 30 and the 40 was that the 30's used straight gears where as the 40's had beveled gears. This was done to help quiet them down from the transmission noise.

Excellent video Brandon :) also interesting on investigating to on transmission problems and easy to figure out too ! Yes 1 remember do Clutch on small tractor to big ones my dad also uncle had farm had split tractor in half to of International ones but International combine was on take header off and left drive front wheel to access Clutch and take 2 hours only to do replacement put left wheel back then header plus hardware too! But old 1950 Cockshutt COOP 40 53 hp Buta gas Motor tractor it was little more task and take muffler plus air filter cap then center hood off then steering wheel shaft out , rad out , then turn fuel tank tap to off plus hook gasoline to carb , electric wires on motor plus battery also starter drive plus break tractor around bell housing of 16 bolts also use crank handle to crank shaft of front tractor to turn motor over get 6 bolts of ring gear plus Clutch plate holder and lift 6 cylinders motor out check ring if need shave down on like disk for brakes also replace 2 throw bearings and then reassemble back it 12 hours job in 3 guys to do ! Clutch plate is like 3 to 6 ton stake truck doubled side type !

Oh man that sounds like the same symptoms the 8640 has...on it we determined it was worn synchronizes and unfortunately that's a good size project to fix it is worth a shot to maybe adjust the shift cable to see if it helps it....Zach has been just running the 8640 in A 3-4 to do field work to get by until he's got time to split the tractor

You are never going to wear the gears out. The part you are going to wear out are the synchronizers. That fitting you noticed was "loose" is supposed to be like that. You need to take the nut out and reseal to entire piece. The 50 series has a better engine block by strengthening the casting to take the stress of being the frame.
@dirtgrainsteel
@dirtgrainsteel 3 жыл бұрын
Are there seals available for that fitting all it shows in my book is that as one part number a complete elbow I also discovered there is a oring behind the nut that did not look the best!
