I put about 500 hours on a 8850 between 1986 - 1990. Another man and I actually picked it up at the John Deere factory in Waterloo. It’s a great tractor and one that I have good memories of operating. I had run a 8630 and there isn’t any comparison. My all time favorite. Thanks for sharing the video. Brought back good memories.

@stevenstart8728
@stevenstart8728 3 жыл бұрын
Adam Kruskama yes you’re right. WA has a lot of very light sand soils that are non wetting in the top layers and delving, clay spreading or inverting seems to improve the problem. This is done as a remedy once every few years. In the eastern states tillage is now nearly non existent with a big focus on maintaining as much ground cover as possible.🇦🇺👍

@@stevenstart8728 notill varies here. Areas with shallow highly erodible soils seem to fair the best from it areas that have higher rain fall or heavier clay soils seems to fair better with some type of tillage to warm the soils in the spring. When I was visiting New Zealand and Australia to farm in the late 90s most of the production focused on cereal grains. Lot less crop residue to deal with than corn. They were doing a tremendous amount of baling of their crop residues which I felt was a shame. Hard to replace that organic material with a pellet. I did like the new hammer mill machines that attach to the rear of the combine to crush weed seeds and keep anything that made it past the combine separator from becoming a volunteer issue. I feel tillage is a tool in the toolbox that has its place. Just like no till. Weeds can’t become resistant to iron. That’s the main reason we still till some of our fields.

Very nice and accurate breakdown on the flaw of the 8850. When Kinze put that sleeve in it, it cured the problem. By all regards that JD V8 engine was a good engine but when it twists and turns going across ditches and the torque it's going to split the block or cause issues with the engine. The rougher the terrain the quicker it was gonna blow lol

I operated a 8850 at “ John Deere Days” in Hanna , Alberta . They were introducing the nee line of tractors for the coming year and the 8850 was the big thing . I waited my turn and pulled 50’ of chisel plow with sweeps . I was in my glory . I also ran a 4450 with 15 spd powershift that day for the first time and then owned one just line it 10 years later . I was never in a 8850 again . Not too many of them repowered in this part of Canada.

Nice video Jason. Looks like that John Deere 2400 digger has some hydraulic problems. The oil is not being sent to the main frame and the wings equally. Could end up doing damage to a nice tiller.
@deeremeyer1749
@deeremeyer1749 2 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with it at all. Two circuits are being used. One for lift and one for fold. All lift cylinders are plumbed together in "parallel". The center frame lift cylinders have to lift the main frame and "half" the hitch. The wing lift cylinders only lift the wings. Less load on the wing cylinders means they lift first and fastest. The main frame "catches up" once the wings are fully raised. The thing folds "in three" for transport. Having the wings "flex" during raising/lowering doesn't "hurt" jack shit. Depth control is by gauge wheels with the lift cylinders in "float" so it CAN "flex" on uneven ground. Not everyone farms table tops and you WANT THE WINGS RAISING FIRST BECAUSE THEY GET THE HIGHEST AND FASTEST TURNING LOADS THAT COULD ACTUALLY "HURT" THAT "DIGGER". Go back to farming 1/64th scale. You don't know shit about "diggers" in real dirt.

I know looks have nothing to do with the functionality of the machine but there's nothing cooler than a articulating tractor with some big old wide tires on it! Also there's nothing better and bad ass than an old JD tractor like a 4440 or 4640 with a big loader on it because imo to me there's nothing sexier than a bad ass loader tractor!

We had a 8650 repowered by kinze. Very nice job they provide. Ended up with 350 hp but transmission gearing wasn't as good as 8630 version because of torque curve of engine. Found out curve of truck motor is just different than tractor. But i bet could be tinkered to fix. Cost was around 20tho at that time with paint job. Was happy with it all around.

@jamesbarbour8400
@jamesbarbour8400 5 ай бұрын
@@claesmansson9070 as far as I'm aware, John Deere attached the engine to the chassis, so that when it flexed, the engine did too, causing head gasket failures, amongst other things. The Kinze Repower utilised a straight six cylinder Cummins engine in place of the original V8 lump. They also built a sub frame to support the six cylinder unit, and didn't link it directly to the tractor mainframe, as the original set up did.

Did Kinze add structure to the chassis of the tractor to avoid stressing the Cummins 855's block like the Deere V8 had been? Deere should have been all over that problem sooner, and redesigned the chassis. I have worked for both John Deere and Cummins, and can say their approach to engineering is very conservative in how large their safety factors are.

@@Lrjohnson4543 Shucked quite a few of them before they left the factory. They never were able to achieve the intended power level with any reliability. @@gonerydin4225 Strange that you spun a bearing at 400 hrs. At the conservative HP that the loaders were set at, they usually last much longer than I'd expect that piece of machinery to with the abuse that loaders take. @@Lrjohnson4543 They were all green when they left the Engine Works. Peak production was only 2/day. Towards the end, only 2/week. Cost per unit was high because several million dollars worth of proprietary machines and equipment were purchased to build one engine model. So Jason was that your tractor that was in the video with the original V8 engine? Because if I remember correctly both of your wonderful tractors the JD and IH are quite something because they both have the original V8 engines! Especially the IH because if I remember right it's extremely hard to find a short hood one that hasn't been repowered afterwards right? I do have one question though that have always wondered about but haven't asked before and as long as it isn't to hard to explain over a comment, what exactly is a partial PowerShift? Is that where you still have to use the clutch to start and get going then it's clutchless? Unlike a full PowerShift where you don't have to use the clutch at all?
@nellsonstout7001
@nellsonstout7001 3 жыл бұрын
A partial powershift means that the gears are split up into ranges that aren’t powershifted. You most likely have to stop the tractor to switch ranges, but few exceptions can be shifted on the move using the clutch. A full powershift is straight powershift through each gear in any given direction
