You just can’t beat the sound of those old John Deere’s a sound all their own. My uncle had an old JD that he used for belt power. We lived a half mile away, but could hear it pop along, never missed a beat.

Oh the days of my youth. Working on a farm planting weeding picking , cutting corn all by hand , on a good day picking tomatoes making $4.00 for eight or ten hours. String beans $.50 a basket lima beans , $2 . a bushel basket. John Deere with a field trailer following while I loaded them . Weekends hucstering the streets of Philadelphia . all around deeres pop in n hopin along. Oh no electric starters big handwheel to start. I remember each step for several tractors just to startem.

I remember seeing the 2 cylinder Deeres working when I was a kid. Amazing how much work they were capable of. The old timers insisted that if the stack wasn't cherry red and there wasn't steam coming off the radiator, you weren't working it hard.

I think the German equivalent to that motor when taking recognition in to account are the Lanz single cylinder engine used in the various bulldogs untill John Deere retired them a few years after Lanz merged with them. I can hear some passing by on the weekends, I have my windows closed, but they can get up to 10.5l.

Its so awesome that he kept it original, i wouldnt want one any other way. This is easily one of my favorite classic tractors. If it was restored and painted: No thanks, if i want a new tractor i would pick up the phone and order a 2022 Kubota. Wish more people will help saving unrestored cars and tractors from the restorers and modifiers, say NO to restored stuff, and never sell your classic to someone whos looking to restore it.

@deanknowles16313 жыл бұрын
Not the 1st John Deere. The 1st John Deere was called the Dain. The only complete 4-cylinder Dain All-Wheel-Drive tractor, John Deere’s oldest known, was welcomed back into the Deere & Co. family. The Dain, which pre-dates John Deere’s first 2-cylinder tractor (the 1923 Model D), was put on permanent display at the John Deere Collectors Center in Moline, Ill., March 13, 2004. The Dain tractor was named so after John Deere’s V.P. 100 where ordered to be initially manufactured by John Deere. Mr. Dain died of pneumonia testing the Dain tractor in poor weather. At that period of time John Deere purchased the Waterloo Boy company. The Waterloo Boy tractor was cheaper to build so John Deere shelved the manufacturing of the Dain Tractor. Not many people knew that Frank Hansen sued John Deere. Hansen claimed he had the only Running fully restored Dain in existence. I believe the other 2 still arounfpd where not complete or not running. After years of legal nonsense by John Deere with Hansen, John Deere recognized that the Dain was indeed the original John Deere tractor even tough only 6 to 8 where built.
