@@mikey29211 Yes, it didn't work because he was an alcoholic big time and was a violent drunk...one of those humans who's sober personality does a complete 180 when drinking alcohol. He was a real Mr. Hyde when indulging in booze. A real shame and very sad. A drug can ruin everything good. Alcohol is a toxic drug, in any proportion.

He wrote this for his wife Annie. He is one of my favorite artists and died tragically and young piloting an experimental plane. He is sorely missed. Great great pick!!! 🎶♥️🔥 P.S he wrote it going up a ski lift in a few minutes inspired by nature and feelings for his wife as they had a strained marriage with his career and insecurities interfering in their relationship. He has many many more great hits !! Great Pick!!!

I used to work for John in the late 1980s and early 1990s doing logistics for his Windstar Symposiums in Aspen. Annie is still alive and living in Aspen. I see her around town from time to time. A nice woman. Knowing the song and the two who are apart of the song is a very personal awareness.

The second verse is just emotional overload, no words have ever more effectively emulated intense and pure love... Always disappointed reactors don't seem to pick up on it or appreciate it like I do. Come, let me love you "Let me" displays such humility and respect for Annie, as to be asking permission to give her love. Let me give my life to you This takes that same humility and Honor on display in the last line, and ratchets it up 100 times... And also demonstrates what true love is, a lifetime commitment to taking care of the needs and wants of another. Let me drown in your laughter When you truly love someone, their happiness is everything to you. Thus, the joy you feel in hearing her laughing is utterly intoxicating. Let me die in your arms Has anyone ever heard a line like this? To be so given to another that you want your last moment on Earth to be with her...truly beautiful stuff... Let me lay down beside you Speaks to the physical, emotional connection in a really classy way. Let me always be with you Again, getting at the greatest aspect of true love - commitment. And again, in a humble way, in saying "let me"... love it.

One of the most beautiful, most heartfelt love songs ever written. Denver said he wrote it for his wife, Annie, in ten minutes on a ski lift. They had had an argument and this was an olive branch of sorts. After he died, even though he was married to another women, Annie still felt his loss very keenly. I was so sad when he passed, but I knew having songs like to listen to made a very good legacy for him.

How ironic you had mentioned this song sounded as if you're on an ocean smooth sailing. John Denver wrote another hit song called 'Calypso' that was inspired while he was sailing with a friend. His surroundings were so beautiful, he had to write about it, but he needed to be alone. So he went to the bow of the boat to take everything in then started writing. By the way, Chicago has a song similar to the lyrics "You Fill Up My Senses" with "You Come to my Senses" from their Chicago XXI album. 😃

That friend was Jacques Cousteau, the legendary oceanographic researcher and film maker. The Calypso was the name of his boat, and if you listen to the lyrics, it's an homage to the educational nature of Cousteau's work. "To work in the service of life and the living In search of the answers to questions unknown To be part of the movement and part of the growing Part of beginning to understand"

One thing I'll let you know about this man? He was every-bit as good, and, in fact, I say BETTER, live. Other than his own changing, and going with the "vibe" of the moment, he was perfection, live. I got into music because of this man, and admired him greatly. We all have our issues in this life, it's how we deal with those, that make us the person we become. John Denver was a good man. And a perfect artist.
