In 1973, when I was a lad of 10, I was at Denver Children's Hospital, recovering from heart surgery, when a nurse came by and said John Denver had just dropped by to do an impromptu concert for the kids. She asked if I'd like to go, and despite never having heard of him (our house was Classical music only) I said yes. They got me into a wheelchair and my mom headed me for the elevator. Just as we were getting in, a young man with moppy hair and a guitar jogged up and asked if we were headed for the playroom. My mom told him we were, so he rode up with us. He did a great little concert for about 25 of us kids and probably 50 nurses. It was the first time I'd ever heard this song and I loved it. Denver didn't have to do that concert. There was no press there and I don't know if anyone who wasn't there even heard about it, but he was just that kind of guy. He wanted to brighten the day of some kids that were dealing with health issues, and he did. R.I.P. John.

John didn't play music just BC the press was there. He was the Most Genuine person l have ever seen. I swear if he'd been out on the road with only a dog for company, he would have played for the dog..lol

In 1986, I was at a summer camp in the Victoria Island and John Denver stopped with his Two adopted Kids. He sang some of his songs including Grandma's Feather Bed and we sang Take me Home Country Roads. He was a wonderful and very Friendly man. I will remember meeting him for the rest of my Life.

I was napping on my couch & woke up with this song in my head. We sang this in my high school choir (the "choraleers"). Loved being in choir...our teacher (Mr. Curry) opened us up to music we hadn't ever heard (I knew John Denver, but not this one) & will never forget! Thank you Mr. Curry & mostly John Denver (RIP).

In this version.. He doesn't, "Reconsider the gal dowwwn the rooaaddd"..... LOL My first concert was John Denver in 1978. My Mom was a huge fan. She played his records every day. I was only 8 when we went. I was in aawww that I could see a famous person in REAL LIFE!! As the stage turned slowly, his glasses gleaming from the lights of Nassau Coliseum...WOW!! I knew ALL the words to EVERY song. I wish I had a time machine to really appreciate it. Love you JD

I went through a number of "Situations" as a kid and listening to John meant l could pretend and go outside of myself to survive. When John passed the sun stopped shining! I couldn't hear Any Birds for the longest time and it was like the World stopped turning.. it took a long time for things to Change but l always wondered what the world would have been like if John had lived?
