The first time I heard this song was in 1982, and I immediately fell in love with it. John Denver was not a perfect man, but he knew what connected him to his Creator. The legacy of his music lives on in his absence. I hope my photography can do justice to the beauty of his song.

Who are the 43 morons who gave this a thumbs down!?! 🙄😡This has always been one of my favorite songs. Nobody could compose and sing such beautiful songs with such clarity like John Denver! There will never be another amazing artist and humanitarian like him. So sorry he is gone but am very grateful for the recordings and memories he gifted us with. ❤️

One of the most beautifully crafted songs of his generation. I think it is his best work. I asked my step daughter who is a writer to write 20 ideas describing the wind. After she struggled with eight I played her this song. She listened to it absorbing it like a sponge. When finished she just said "I now know the wind!"

I listened to John Denver starting in the 70's. Growing up I was always outdoors hiking or camping, so his songs resonated with me. But the longer I listened to his songs the more I realized that they were more then outdoors and nature songs... they are spiritual. Anyone who opens they eyes, minds, and hearts listening to his songs can realize we are just a part of the whole here on earth, and must respect and love ourselves, each other, and Mother Earth.

John was an extraordinary talent and a man way ahead of his time. He was among the first to champion the environment and was taken from us far too soon. That he can still touch the lives of people 20+ years after his untimely passing is a testament to his talent and vision.

The first song I heard from John was Calypso. Then I went to the record Shop for more songs from him. They had in store the Wind song album. When I started to listen to the record it started with this song and I was blown away. Since then I admired him and he became large part of my life. Then I was about 14 years old, now I'm 62. He still lives in another space but left us with his beautiful music.

An interesting note about this song: it was John Denver's idea that the songs on the original vinyl record album "Windsong" were to be seperated by a few seconds of the various sounds of the wind instead of the typical silence between songs. But the audio recording/reproduction equipment of the day were incapable of adequately capturing it, so the idea was scrapped. This was explained in the original liner notes of the album. One of the most peaceful and beautiful songs perhaps ever written.

The wind is the whisper of our mother the earth The wind is the hand of our father the sky The wind watches over our struggles and pleasures The wind is the goddess who first learned to fly The wind is the bearer of bad and good tidings The weaver of darkness, the bringer of dawn The wind gives the rain, then builds us a rainbow The wind is the singer when sang the first song The wind is a twister of anger and warning The wind brings the fragrance of freshly mown hay The wind is a racer, a wild stallion running The sweet taste of love on a slow summer's day The wind knows the songs of the cities and canyons The thunder of mountains, the roar of the sea The wind is the taker and giver of mornings The wind is the symbol of all that is free So welcome the wind and the wisdom she offers Follow her summons when she calls again In your heart and your spirit let the breezes surround you Lift up your voice then and sing with the wind

John Denver isn't one of my favorite artists but I think his 1975 album entitled "Windsong" is the greatest album I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I think he had a lot of help to produce that album but of course he was the central figure in making it. John had an entire orchestra at his disposal and just like Elvis liked to do, they didn't mind sharing the studio with a tremendous flow of musicians. Contemporary music? Well I'll let others downgrade it when comparing it to he past.

The arrangement by Lee Holdridge of this song is quite beautiful. It really elevates the whole listening experience. Mr Holdridge was a part of most of JDs albums and toured w him exclusively for most of JDs career. They became close friends. Not to take anything away from Denver (I am.a huge fan) but Holdridge and his orchestra should get more credit for what they lent to JDs music.

No other singer could express their love of the natural world as well as John Denver. The words of this song combined with a voice that is unmatched in clarity, and perfection of tone, is nothing short of a masterpiece in artistic quality. The wonderful photos in the video are a complimentary gesture to the song. Well done!

I was a huge fan in the early to mid 1970s. Saw him in 1976 (?) in Bloomington , IN. The last album I bought Windsong, which I loved. Moved on to blues based stuff. CCR had been a gateway drug already) Scroll forward a few decades

...got cut off there. Anyway, retired to the Monterey Peninsula on CA’s Central Coast, where we ended up buying a house roughly 6 blocks from the John Denver memorial at the site of his plane crash. There is a gathering of fans there every October 12, the anniversary of his death. People bring memorabilia to show, music to play, and one of the evenings there is a sing along. Some come from pretty far away. If you are ever in the area at that time, join us! As John might have said, it’s far out.

My mom opened my eyes, ears, and heart to John Denver at a very young age and I've never been the same. I remember lying on the floor in my bedroom listening to his music, (not realizing at the time), I was soaking every note into my eternal memory. Thanks Mom.
