You spend 5 months at the most to write and record it and you do like 30 dates spread out over a couple of months to promote it. Met John before the gig in Yerevan 2015 when he and his bodyguard were looking for a place to eat something-I recommend the place I had just had fries at (since most restaurants and takeaways in the area were understandably closed). I told him he was one of my favourite drummers ever and that I had Toxicity drum sheet music book (which he said he hadn’t even checked!), and that I was a drummer and respectfully berated him for not playing _Lost in Hollywood_ like he had played on the album. What a memory to cherish... Now I even have 3 pairs of JD signature VF sticks and LP timbales. P.S. I have mosh-pit angle videos from the Yerevan gig on my channel if anybody wants to see that.

Why is John putting so much pressure on Serj instead of Daron? Serj just wants to write some songs for the new album whereas Daron wants to keep all creative control. This seems insane to me. What I want to pinpoint is, it is what happens when the band dynamics change & creative differences arise. The same happened to Beatles, they tried to move forward with releasing White Album (one side with Director's Cut to McCartney, second to Lennon, much like what Serj suggested), however it has only worked for one session and shortly after the band disbanned. Perhaps it's a case of successful bands to last short but with such a legacy

It breaks my heart to know I may never get to see these guys live. The one time I went to see them , I ended up concussed in the front seat of my truck puking everywhere. I worked all day in the summer florida sun, on cars on blacktop,, went home, mowed my lawn, weedeated it, edged everything nice and picked everything up, showered, went to show, had my normal 4-6 beers with 3 shots of Jager, which I never ever drink liquor, smokes a few hits off a j, and realized I never ate that day or since the morning the day before and it was too late! Everything hit me immediately and I was done. I should have been rushed to the hospital and I paid for it for the next 2 weeks. One of the worst , if not the worst night of my life! That was in 2004!

John, Shavo, and Daron should've formed a band a long time ago with another vocalist, just like Audioslave, and tour with Serj from time to time as SYSTEM, and everyone's happy... but it seems we're always going to have this he said/she said B/S and will never have a new album by the band. The bottom line is we as fans have had enough (18 YEARS) with this new album soap opera, and don't get me wrong, I admire ALL of the members, I've been a huge fan for almost 20 years, I think SOAD's music is UNIQUE, but this soap opera is starting to corrode the image we have of you as a BAND/FAMILY. Truly hope you can settle the differences!

I don’t like when the blame is on Serj. Daron was never the full writer of the songs. It sounds to me like he wants Serj to lay down vocals on his 12 Scars on Broadway tracks & call it System. Now if they did come out with an album that Serj finally agrees on, I’ll love it. John is right, the group is stronger together. They are my favourite group. I would love if the album was split 6 songs each. As well as the pay, we have all read over the years that Daron makes more for producing. Well Serj can be JUST AS INVOLVED. I guess that John is the most fed up with these internal SOAD diatribes that have been preventing them from releasing a new album for almost eighteen years (except for the two 2020 songs). The problem is that the two main creative minds of the band can't find an agreement and one of them (Serj) has various health problems which, combined with internal tensions, make him desist from any attempt to continue making music with SOAD, both in studio and live. It's true that the four of them, together, are a powerhouse but, at a certain point, one has to face reality: Serj will never again record an entire album with them. Then, they should look for a new singer, for goodness sake! What are they waiting for? Is it possible that in and around Los Angeles there isn't a good singer, young, full of enthusiasm and happy to work with a great band like SOAD? I'm sure that there is. And Serj, in my opinion, would also agree to step aside if they give him an adequate severance pay. If he doesn't accept, they can dissolve the band and put together a new group with a new singer. At least they should try, if the three of them wish to continue! If not, they should put their hearts at rest, John included, and no harm, no foul.

My feeling is they lost sight of the power the band has on social movements. They had such a huge impact getting ppl to recognize corruption and reject govt authority ideologically. Returning to fundraise for Armenia should have been the tip of the iceberg in reawakening how they empower fellow ppl through their music. Maybe John really believes this and I appreciate that, but what I'm sure Serj also very much believes that he could never get Daron or Shavo or John to agree to doing a symphonic suite, or a jazz quartet album, or an electronic/techno track. Maybe John thinks those projects suck, but for Serj, it's something he's always wanted to do, and knew he cold never do within the confines of this band, and maybe it doesn't matter to Serj if what he does is received as well as Toxicity, or stands the test of time as well as Chop Suey. I think what matters most to him is that he is constantly exploring himself artistically, whether or not it's piquing the interest of the critics, or filling stadiums or topping charts, and that simultaneously makes me respect him AND annoys the shit out of me. Because yeah, I'd love to see System of a Down album #6. I'll bet I'd love it. My only disagreement is, if Serj isn't into a new album and they create one, I don't believe it would hit as hard as OG SOAD or even some of Scars Over Broadway. If his heart isn't in it, I wouldn't want even one new song. That being said, I want nothing more with every fiber in my body than for SOAD to do one more solid recording session. Whatever comes of it, I will accept. The Genocidal Humanoidz and Protect the Land single was a great sample of their ability to still work together.

Both Scars albums are amazing, solid 8/10 for each. Serj's debut album was great too, but all of his other stuff was awful. Remember that the Dictator Scars album was a bunch of tracks for a System album that Daron finally decided to master after they sat around for a decade. There are certain songs that you can HEAR parts that were meant to be sang by Serj, especially Lives and Angry Guru. At this point, I'd like for Daron to just release Scars albums consistently.

Does anybody have a clear answer as to why exactly Serj does not want to make a new album? I just want a definite clear answer. It’s hard for me to understand because it’s like holding a winning lotto ticket in your hand and saying you don’t want to cash it in

@@RoboVonHoboJosh I was PRO serj and ANTI Daron up until maybe last year when Daron came out and explained that Serj doesn't want to be in SOAD anymore. Honestly, I wouldn't call Daron a control freak. He wants to make ROCK which is what SOAD does, and he's clearly stated that Serj was never even into Rock to begin with. Their Solo projects speak for themselves. Serj's solo albums are Alt Rock. Daron's Scars on broadway albums are amazing and REALLY similar to SOAD. Daron is and has been the main songwriter. You can't blame Daron man, you just can't. He's standing his ground maybe Serj wants to take the band into an entirely different direction we would all HATE. So maybe it's better the rest of the band is opposed to it. I just want to hear from Serj's mouth a clearcut simple explanation. If he says "I don't want to do rock anymore" cool... at least we'll know this band is basically over. The fact they still perform at this point without releasing new music just feels like they're taking advantage of the fans money and stringing us along. John being full boomer is his own personal opinions and if you listen to him speak you'll know and understand that he keeps his political opinions separate from the band.

@@degacci Serj has already made it clear in a video on his channel from 2019. There are creative differences and that is OK. What is not ok is making statements like John's here just whining about it and trying to shame Serj in to making music with SOAD again. Daron's ego places himself at the top of SOAD and there really isn't any kind of place for that kind of mentality when trying to work together as a group. If you try and force an artist to make art you don't get good results. The issue isn't Serj forcing anything, this is about Daron being ego brained and not understanding that he doesn't get to be the de facto leader of SOAD. The reality is that when people think of SOAD they think of Serj's lyrics and voice. If they can't give Serj his creative freedom in the band that is first and foremost represented by him as their figurehead then they should move on. Trying to play this game of harassing Serj on social media only drives a wedge in the fan base and makes it less likely that people will follow Daron and John in future due to their pettiness.

It's sad he has to explain this again lol like if you didn't understand what he was saying in the last video, and came to some weird conclusions or twisted his words, that's on you. It was pretty clear he was just saying when all the band members are TOGETHER in SYSTEM, is when they are ALL at their best. He wasn't knocking on anyone's side projects, just being honest about them ( I love Scars on Broadway btw )

Basicamente dice que los proyectos paralelos a la banda nunca van a superar lo que hizo SOAD y que estos nunca tendran la magia que tienen cuando se juntaban los 4 a hacer musica. Dice tambien que si se juntaran a hacer un nuevo disco seria mucho mejor de lo que vienen haciendo por separado pero ve dificil que esto pase, con o sin Serj. Compare the stir SOAD created when their second album started getting picked up to anything goin on in heavy music at the time. We got it the day it came out and we're just blown out our shoes. The fact SOAD does what they want just shows u can't buy these guys. It's all about the music.

Great album in general but daron lyric are bit too crude sometime, just as Serj solo project lyric are a bit too sophisticated sometime. In SOAD you can really feel the mix of those 2 lyrical idea meeting each other kinda like the ying and the yang. The same goes for their instrumental idea.
