Love your reaction. We are lucky to have so many high quality videos of John because he was so huge here that every concert tour, one concert was recorded as a television special played later that year. The love for him in Australia is immense and to see the rest of the world begin to embrace him is wonderful. And Jimmy too, who is still performing and recording and being an awesome human.

Barnesy is a genius at switching from lead to backup in an instant. It shows a great respect for the vocalist he is singing any duet with. More importantly, it is time for you to hear Cold Chisel's version of this (Ringside concert) so that you get to appreciate Ian Moss' brilliant voice and the harmonies between him and Jimmy.

@@SoulSessionSundays a recent clipping in an Australian newspaper Superstar John Farnham has sent out a message of thanks to fans a year to the day after he underwent cancer surgery in Melbourne. On August 23, 2022, the 74-year-old singer went through a 12-hour procedure to remove a cancerous tumour from his mouth. It was followed by reconstructive plastic surgery and stints in rehabilitation, including eight weeks of radiation treatment, and further surgeries.

Great song and a great reaction, thanks for that. For some context, in the original song by Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes sings the second verse as he does here, and Ian Moss (lead guitarist and a great singer in his own right) sings the verses that John sings here. You should definitely check out the Cold Chisel version from their concert in 2003 to compare an older version of Jimmy and a more acoustic version of this song - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmW6qKRvlN-hlcU. 💗💗💗 Nice reaction. I was a bit disappointed though that Jimmy came in that late, was waiting for him all the time from the beginning... Without any doubt John is a great artist and a very nice guy, but vocally for me it's Jimmy's voice which really does it... - anyway, nice performance!

It was lucky that Jimmy came in at all as he was known to be unreliable during his drug-using days. In one video John is looking around to see if he's turning up. Thankfully, Jimmy's children had an intervention on Jimmy and his wife regarding their drug use, which shook them up, and they got off the drugs. There is a video clip of this.

Beautiful reaction as always. I remember watching this on live TV , unfortunately I wasn't actually there. I remember what a special moment it was when Jimmy walked out. I was gob smacked! There is another version of John singing this with his band. Look for When The War Is Over, The Last Time, Melbourne 2003. He seriously blows the roof off the place. Jimmy had a massive week by the sound of it. His voice is pretty shot here and apparently he neglected to warm his voice up in the earlier days. I'm pretty sure every other performance I've heard of this is a fair bit better. Hopefully people can recommend the better performances with an actual link to it going forward..

This is the worst performance of this song on KZbin. Jimmy absolutely butchers his part. The Cold Chisel ringside concert is the definitive performance of this song. John’s solo effort is great, but as good as he is, he doesn’t quite match that one.

Agreed but still great and fun. Ringside 2003 is the best Chisels version of this song and don't remember the date but John's best for this song is the one when he is in his Fifties, probably the last time tour but I could be wrong and too lazy to check 😂

Jimmys pretty smashed here, he’s probably had a few too many vodkas no doubt but it doesn’t matter it’s two Aussie greats having fun and entertaining the crowd and we love it! they sing very well together and have respect for each others abilities.

I understand that Jimmy was a last minute addition to this song, as he happened to be there. He didn't have a warm up, just went in there cold. He has admitted that it was nowhere near his best performance, but when John asked him to, he did. No matter, I love this version, the chemistry between the two is blatant.

@@SoulSessionSundays Jimmy had serous issues with booze and other drugs. In another clip John is looking around for him to see if he'll turn up. Jimmy finally got himself cleaned up when his children called an intervention on him and his wife/their mother. That is revealed on a interview video.

@@SoulSessionSundays I understand the mixed reviews. Jimmy is not only human, he is also a very rough diamond. Sometimes Jimmy loses his way and for a period, he constantly tried to sing TOO loud and with TOO much gravel crunching attitude. He actually has a very sweet natural voice for rock, soul and probably jazz..... the gravel is voice control and NOT natural. His biggest fans think he is GOD and are oblivious to the truth and reality. lol
