In this video, Merit and Scarlet react to John Farnham & Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - You´re the voice
"You're the Voice" is a song written by Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson, recorded by the Australian singer John Farnham and released as a single in September 1986 ahead of his album Whispering Jack.[2][3] "You're the Voice" was one of the biggest hits of 1986 in Australia, topping the Kent Music Report singles chart for seven weeks from 3 November to 21 December.

This song is the unofficial Australian National Anthem and he is a legend in Australia this song came out in 1986 and the statement and lyrics are just as powerful now as they were back in 1986. With that performance that is how you command a stage and you're audience. Yes everyone just loves and adores John and his fun side and wonderful personality shines through. John is an amazing singer and can sing anything so much more of his wonderful music to discover. Great reaction thank you. 🇬🇧🇬🇧

Such a shame that America didn't discover John 35 years ago when he was at the peak of his career so much better than t😢 current American artists

He was offered a chance to tour America in big arenas but he was married with a young family and didn't want to be separated from them or having them follow him from arena to arena. So he chose not to follow that path. He was very young when he married, and is still married to Jilly today. He put his family first.

To everybody in the world who hasn't already done so - watch all of John Farnham's concert and other clips on youtube. When john was born he came with a voice that's out of this world. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. And look up his oh so talented backing singers and his band. ENJOY! And join with the millions of John's fans. 20.10.23. UK E❤

PS. Recorded in 1986, a few short years before he was 40. He was still belting it out into his early 70s when covid pandemic shut the world down. You're the Voice - . Google will tell you why it was written and who wrote it. Many of his songs have a back story, those he wrote or co-wrote himself have real meanings. 20.10.23. UK. E❤

I watch Farnsey videos daily (only got a mobile phone, no Internet in the house) , and daily i thank the universe for the late Glenn Wheatley. Who, along with his wife Gaynor, was also the much loved friend of Farnsey and his family Farnsey's back story is really interesting. It's all on youtube - interviews, documentaries. And similar videos about his backing singers and his band. Only the very best for the very best. Feb. '24. UK. E❤

Watching to the end you hear John thanking the audience and the Orchestra. All part of John's brilliant entertainment package. This song is one reason why we (in Aus) know John and love him as THE VOICE, apart from his obvious voice skill & talent! Love your reaction.

John is an amazing singer, he is loved by everyone in Australia 🇦🇺. I have been lucky enough to go to many of his concerts. He is so humble and down to earth, fame hasn’t changed him at all. He is now fighting mouth cancer and had an 11 hour operation and having treatment still. Keep him in your prayers ❤ and check out Help and When the War is Over, spine tingling love you John xxx

If you look closely at 3:54 of your reaction, you will see John throwing the microphone stand in the air, and then catching it, before throwing it across the stage. Watch him for about a minute before this, and you can see him tightening the stand.

@@MeritScarlet Even better, he catches it ON THE BEAT!! And when he goe to pick it up from stage left, watch the smooth kick and catch. He does this in most all of his performances of this song, although in the later years he misses the first catch sometimes...but he still keeps singing with missing, and even laughs it off. As a former monitor mix engineer, I also can say for sure there is never any autotune even on the later performances, and the sound mix here was one of the best I have ever heard. I only wish I had discovered him a lot sooner (I even sent my former Aussie roommate an angry email, blaming him for not telling me about John when he stayed at my place in 1998), it was the "Merlin" BTS video of Bradley and Colin lip sync'ing this song that I found it. A wonderful performer and nice guy, much like (the late) Eddie Money.

This song was written by people in England who wanted to go to a march for an anti-nuclear demonstration but accidently missed it. They wrote this song instead. It can be applied to any fight for the good, the true and the beautiful. John Farnham has a number of songs with a message for the greater good of the world. To sing and bring us joy is what John has come here to do. His Soul shines when he is on stage, performing live.

Thanks to you both for the wonderful post & your really kind comments about Our John. There's quite a bit to our John's back story & it was no mistake that scenes from Australia's illegal, cowardly, perverted & miserably failed invasion of Viet Nam were in the original video track. John (a former Plumber) like all Aussie Building Union members (like me back then & will be always) was only young but we knew & have never forgotten or forgiven the Conservative Party in Australia for illegally invading Viet Nam. The Building Unions in Australia are magnificent & were the back bone of the Anti Viet Nam Invasion movement.

This song came out in '86 when the cold war was in full swing and everyone lived in fear of being vapourised by idiot politicians with their weapons of mass destruction. An appropriate song at the time with a Third World War was a credible threat at the time. I was a child in the '60s and even as a 5 year old I was very aware of war and it's consequences. When the song came out I would have been exposed to 20 years of this stress up to that point and, along with everyone else, was tired of it all.
