Taylor Lex I dont run mine last, just make sure your DS2 and wah are running into it. Only way they behave if not running into a broken up amp. But yeah, definitely have your modulation effects and stuff after the plexi pedal or else your delays for example will be slightly boosted and distorted in the repeats - no likey.

Hi, this is amazing! Really appreciate it! Could please explain why your dist and fuzz pedals are set in that order? Ds2 - Fuzzmite - Boost - Big Muff ? Thanks!!
@vagabondaudio4 жыл бұрын
mynmyself That’s the way JF orders his gain pedals. The DS-2 is the main rhythm distortion, so that comes first. The Fuzzmite/Fuzzrite is a low gain fuzz, and the DS-2 doesn’t work as well with a fuzz if it comes before the DS-2. So both fuzz pedals comes after the DS-2. The boost is mainly a clean boost for those funk riffs, and can be used to push the DS-2 or Fuzzmite a little bit. I don’t know why the boost is between the fuzz pedals though. The Big Muff is mainly used in conjunction with the DS-2 to really push the gain for solos.

Since that in the "animal bar" that violin king of riff you've used the volume knob of your guitar instead of the volume pedal you know... Thanks! And congratulations for your work again! Definitely amazing!
@vagabondaudio5 жыл бұрын
Victor Fidelis For JF, I think he mainly just used it as a mute for his rig. He had his toward the end of the rig, so it served as a master volume. I have mine after the gain section and before the time based effects, so I can use it for volume swells. I prefer using the pedal vs. the volume knob. It’s just easier for me, personally. Plus it frees up your hand to play instead of having to focus on playing and turning the volume knob up and down.

Hey man! Big fan of your playing! I'm curious if there is any way to get that Dani California Distortion out of a Boss DS-1?
@vagabondaudio4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks man. It’s been about 10 years since I tried to use a DS-1 for that sound. I’d say, probably not, because of the mid boost you get with the DS-2. However, Klinghoffer has a DS-1 on his board for a while, and I think he used that for Dani. So it’s likely, but I’d have to guess that you’d need to crank the Gain and lower the Tone, since that pedal gets really brittle sounding with the Tone knob set higher.
@thesteelstrummer23074 жыл бұрын
@@vagabondaudio Thanks man! Just found Klinghoffer's settings

I'm surprised by the DS2 and Big Muff volumes cranked to the max. How doesn't it boost the signal so much it's way to loud compared to the dry level? If I do that, it's impossible to play live.
@vagabondaudio4 жыл бұрын
Cyril Diabolo The Big Muff volume being high is ok. It’s a naturally low level pedal. The DS-2, however, I normally keep around 12:00. However, to get the desired sound, having it cranked and using an attenuator on your amp would probably work. But having everything maxed and set the volume to taste is the best way.

Dude. This is amazing and so helpful. If you were re-creating only 'By the Way' era tones, is the Obi Wah effect the only use for the FM4? And how many delay settings are needed for BTW? Thanks!
@vagabondaudio4 жыл бұрын
For By the way era, the Obi-Wah would be the only sound you’d need in the FM4. At Slane Castle, JF did use it at the end of ‘Give It Away’ on the “throbber” setting for that tremolo effect. But other than that, that’s it. For delay settings, you’d need ‘Don’t Forget Me” and “Throw Away Your Television.” All of which could be achieved with just a single DL4.

Gotta say, you ponied up for the moog stuff. Why not a ce1?
@vagabondaudio4 жыл бұрын
Brooks Carney Because I was able to get my hands on a cheaper, smaller and very comparable alternative (clone) for the CE-1. I still intend on getting one but for the sake of space, having the smaller pedal makes it better and less cramped on the board. For the Moog, the only comparable alternative on the market is the Chase Bliss Wombstone, but the price is the same. So, for the same price, I could get the original. Now, while smaller would be better, I couldn’t fit both an original CE-1 and the Moog on the board, so I went for the Moog over the CE-1.

How did you make your crunch tone? And also how did you make your balanced sounds ? (Your ds-2,bigmuff pi’s volumes are fulled but not too noisy
@vagabondaudio5 жыл бұрын
Frus J My crunch sound came from the TL Chorus Ensemble. I have my amp gain on 2, which is barely any breakup, and the preamp from the Ensemble pushes the signal a bit more, to the edge of breakup, which gives me the nice JF “clean” sound. The distortion volumes....I attenuated the volume with the volume pedal. The big muff isn’t actually that loud - the DS2 is. I keep that cranked because you lose some gain when you turn it down to unity level.
