Ohhhh so that's the one! :) Interesting after so long to see the deconstruction and reconstruction of the JF sound that's so natural to you. Hah, I just watched this last night and today I wake up to the news that Behringer is also making a copy of this pedal. It was the first thing that popped up in my newsfeed... The CE1 is crazy expensive. I'm kinda surprised that there aren't many reproductions out there. It's a pretty unique pedal where it compresses/distorts the sound that is higher than it's threshold but keeps everything under it really clean. i'm not sure if any other pedals work that way.

@@Vigi I have an Orange Tiny Terror that has been modded to sound kind of Blackmore-ish because I'm a huge Blackmore fan. I plan to mod the mod (:D) because it sounds too harsh. It's designed to sound good with a fuzzy preamp. And I own a cheap transistor practise amp, the Hotone British Invasion. Sounds pretty good, though, plus I have the possibility to run a stereo rig. I run them pretty clean but with a small amount of gain to compress the volume of my WH10 and some drive pedals. Kind of what the CE1 does but not as nice sounding as your rig ;)
@Vigi
@Vigi 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve actually used the Tiny Terror a lot in band practice. I did always bring my ce-1 but I view that amp as being a gain/crunch amp. So I’m not sure the ce-1 was so necessary. The ce-1 is prefect for amps with a clean channel like the jubilee. :)

How does the preamp in the CE-1 compare to a clean boost pedal like an EP Booster?
@ToppaliniTube
@ToppaliniTube 3 жыл бұрын
i found a way to recreate this effect with a different pedal. i was playing with a JHS series 3 distortion (basically ds2) and found that on low levels it's really sensitive to input, so clean on soft strums and dirty with more input. not sure if all distortion pedals would have that effect, i haven't seen it from overdrive pedals. i was able to recreate tube like clipping using tube amp modeller into speakers that way.
@Vigi
@Vigi 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Do you get good interaction with other pedals like distortion that way? :)
@ToppaliniTube
@ToppaliniTube 3 жыл бұрын
@@Vigi i ended up putting it at the very start of the chain so that i could use compression and still get the input sensitive effects. doesn't help with volume jumps but. i can kick on a fuzz or other high gain pedal without that pedal jumping higher than its set. and it doesn't cause a bunch of white noise like stacking two high gain pedals. i'm thinking of getting a new distortion pedal and using this pedal solely for this effect. sounds really good for cleanish stuff like cant stop or under the bridge rhythm sections, and if the gain is turned up a bit it sounds like an overdrive for lead
@ToppaliniTube
@ToppaliniTube 3 жыл бұрын
i'm definitely going to upload an under the bridge jam using this effect. it really forces you to play gently to get a clean tone and ends up sounding better and really unique as the level of clipping is constantly changing

When I have had band practice over the years I’ve come into contact with different amps and I’ve always used this pedal for crunch. But different amps colors the tone in different ways, which can become more evident when kicking in the ds-2. Therefore, some amps are more pleasant than others. I have not tried this with the amps you mentioned, but based on what I’ve written above, I expect it to work more or less. ☺️ Greeting! :) I’m also from Europe. :)

@@Vigi I have a few pedals almost all from different companies. The main ones I use are behringer compressor (had a keeley comp used but it was purchased damaged and stopped working). Jhs distortion which is similar to ds2. Wh10v3 and behringer optical wah hb01 (behringer was replacement while ibanez put new switch in wh10). Behringer wah is good wh10 replacement substitute. Ehx flat iron fuzz. Corona tc chorus. Also joyo amp modeller with a studio monitor and 1 watt blackstar tube amp. And a few other things I don't use much

@@Vigi also for guitars i use g&l tribute strats. i think they're as good as american strats except they use cheaper wood and maybe other components. but one of them i have has american pickups and putting some american g&l humbuckers in the other. i'd prefer an american standard strat but too expensive and their frets are too small, i'd wear out frets in maybe 2 years.

Do you use high or low impedance? I finally got one and trying to figure out how to use it with my rig

I’ve found myself using both modes frequently. I just dial it in together with the level knob until I get the level of crunch I want. :)

@@Vigi Ah ok, that makes sense. I want it as an always on pedal that I don't ever have to mess with. I've found that on 60% volume low impedance, it sort of smooths everything out especially the ds2 and wah combo, while doing some volume control and not muddying signal. Higher than this has cool crunch for the very crunchy stuff but doesn't work with ds2+wah with my rig. I've also found that when it's used for low or mid gain sounds that the clipping is really inconsistent and not good sounding.
@ToppaliniTube

I'm really glad I went for the full chorus build instead of just the preamp build because the preamp isn't what I imagined and hasn't fundamentally changed my tone. But I think when I try with tube amp and not my amp box rig it'll do better. But the chorus sound of this circuit is unbelievably good. I mean I literally can't believe it. I've only tried a couple choruses but it blows them out of the water completely.

@@Vigi Exactly at where? Just watched it again. Have you done a side by side comparison? Cause to me that ce-1 volume sounds and acts just like a normal boost pedal. Increases the volume to the point the preamp cant handle it, then gets distorted.

If you’re just after the crunch, it’s quite easy to get a good JF tone without the pedal. But when you start to add more pedals like ds-2, then this is very useful. However, there are many other great pedals to achieve this as well. Dave Simpson is very good at this. :)
