John learned to sound good playing with Flea by copying Slovak's style in the beginning, and Slovak passed away very young and didn't live long enough to reach his potential. Imho, Slovak played blues licks better than John. Watch "Hillel Slovak's Rig" and listen to him solo a bit in the beginning...
