I recall seeing these big waves in 73 or 74 while stationed there. Walked down to the beach. It was at first was terrifying they looked like they come all the way inshore. Tried body surfing ended up doing a face plant on shore breakers.. stuck out my arms nope folded them then the face plant.. I believe Sharks Cove was on one side and the Pipe Line was on the other. Went nite diving at sharks cove at nite and while there never went day diving again. Dennis Kerwin was the Scuba instructor. Maui, PADI, And good ole YMCA. CERTS. mostly good memories! Aloha

i am unable to stand (only can knee ride), but im wondering if i sat sort of 'inside' and picked up a shoulder of one of the unridden ones from outside, if i could get out safely on the shoulder kneeboarding on one of those big boards :) also, it could be fun just to paddle out and sit towards the channel and watch the big waves from the water. it must be so powerful and spectacular to be amidst that and see / feel its power :) also, it could be fun to lay in the sun on the beach / cliff and take a nap while suntanning to the roar and rumble of those waves breaking :)
