Could you imagine wanting to surf your home break and having a 100 random guys show up from all over the world and try to catch every wave that comes through with no regard for the locals

There is MUCH more order in the Worlds most coveted barrel than you might think. A lot of surfers in that lineup are just spectators hoping to catch a wave. The locals are catching the waves NO DOUBT.

The more you rewatch that clip the more it doesn't make sense why the other dude even paddled for Johns wave. John further out and in a better position, oh and a world champ and as local as it gets

I do think the other guy should've pulled back. Also, John John is actually a lot more respectful and chill compared to a lot of pros. What's so frustrating are the double standards in surfing. Pecking order aside, one guy may justify John's position by being the first one to paddle for it and further out, but that same guy might side with the guy on the inside paddling for it had he been in his place. An angry local guaranteed would get pissed at you if you were to do to him what John did to that guy, even though technically I believe John is justified here. That's just the reality in surfing, selfish locals will always justify their point of view over yours as long as it benefits them.

I don't know. Normally I'm super anti pros burning anyone, but I think this one was borderline. While the other guy was inside, JJF was further out the back and more at the apex of the peak. The other guy kind of cut across and under him, and even if JJF didn't drop in you can see he was still kind of behind the part of the wave that would have allowed him to easily pull in. But more important than that: this is John Florence, the best surfer in the world and the top dog at his home break that he literally grew up steps away from. Just let him have the wave and enjoy the show.
@bradsillasen197211 күн бұрын
@@sumatran I agree borderline. JJF probably knew the guy couldn't make it anyway. But he gets his share and then some. Other guys not so much, and they'd probably be even more stoked to get a smoker.
@JeremiahAlphonsus11 күн бұрын
JJF was already paddling for it. Plus, as both a local and a world champion, he has priority on every wave.

I still remember John burning me at snapper in 2016. I did my best to chase him down but damn he was too fast. Then he did a massive air and landed it. I got front row seats. It was awesome.
