Love your videos and content John. Always informative and interesting. Unbelievable to think that “Gimme Some Truth” is 50 years old. Lord knows we need songs like this, especially given the times we live in. Lennon and the Beatles were are a one off. Keep up the good work.🎼🙏♥️x

I'm 70. Got a Stella guitar and a Beatles album for Christmas '63. Saw them on Sullivan in Feb. '64 and have followed them ever since. I was playing a gig in Toronto when Lennon died. I've never put my finger on it but something passed in me and millions of others that night. A loss, certainly. A sadness, assuredly. But something unknowable happened deep in my heart. A profound emptiness. It's still there, but soothed by John's voice.

Give peace a chance...Imagine....All you need is love...John had a knack for writing songs that became anthems for people worldwide. There were many songs about love and peace during the sixties from famous bands, but they sound of their time, while John's is for all time, forever. I think he surpasses even Dylan in this limited but essential arena.

@@Ian_Jules It was remixed in 2004ish. I think "Angela" is the best remix on this CD/ LP.

@@mirrortime To be clear, I meant specifically the 2020 "ultimate" remixes we may be getting for each album. I did pick up some of the previous Lennon remixes, but Sometime in NYC had been edited and truncated regarding the Live Jam section, so I left it until the original mixes were reissued in 2010. Although these new mixes are fantastic, I know I will return to the Signature Box reissues at times, especially for certain albums, for the character of John's original, muddy mixes.

@@Ian_Jules Awesome! Thanks much. I'm clearer on it now. Playing "Gimme Some Truth" comp. right now. Sounds incredible to me. I don't mind the re-mixes. Although to me a bit novelty. I AGREE. I will go back to the original mixes for the real thing. IMHO. Thank so much SJMonk :)

An informative review as always, John. I'm a big fan of Lennon and own all his albums on various formats but I will probably pass on this release for the following reasons: 1. I already have all the tracks on CD. 2. The previous remasters sound perfectly fine to me. 3. Remixing tracks is fine but I still prefer the old mixes that were sanctioned by Lennon himself as this was how he intended them to sound. E.g. he didn't like his vocals to be too loud in the mix.
@buddygreco23484 жыл бұрын
Agreed
@DorianPaige004 жыл бұрын
I noticed his voice wasn't very loud in even over the radio. I bought this double disc set as all I had was the single disc set from the late 90's. I really like the track "Bless you" and reminds me of Paul McCartney's "My love" which both delve more into the R&B/soul side of things.
@happyhappyjoyjoy554 жыл бұрын
" Another great review from Mr. Heaton. I look forward to hearing John's voice more up front in the mix. He was so, needlessly, insecure about his voice. I always felt he had, not only a great, distinctive voice, but always brought so much feeling to his singing. For me that's where the emphasis needs to be, and he had that in spades."
@fgrady14 жыл бұрын
Just a note about this Plastic Ono Band 6-CD/2-BluRay set supposedly to be dropped this December. My guess is that BOTH John AND Yoko’s POB albums are contained herein. Remixed and remastered for each album and different mixes, rehearsals and out takes will make up the rest, surround mixes for each on the BluRays.

I notice that in the UK, the MCPS/PRS registration for Imagine it is still just John Lennon. Obviously in 30 years time in the UK, it will be public domain, if Ono isn't jointly credited here in the official registration. 'Give Peace A Chance' is now officially UK registered as a solo Lennon work.

Hi, John. You got me curious about when the writing credit on "Give Peace a Chance" changed. Just looking at the 2 compilations I have handy, The John Lennon Collection (1989 CD version) has John Lennon/Paul McCartney; Lennon Legend (1997) gives the credit to Lennon alone. Looks like the change was made some time during the 1990's.

Just what the world needs yet another Lennon compilation they couldn't even come up with a new title for this one. The last remixes Yoko did a decade ago were woeful listen to the Rock and roll cd with the cymbal crashes edited out or whatever gets you thru the night with the sloppy ending and Elton's piano mixed way down low. They've boosted his voice so much just so that it sounds different from the originals, so they can charge fans a bunch of money for the same music. Plus, they've dampened the piano on 'God' so that it has considerably less impact. Ultimate, my arse.

I'm fine with the previous JL collection, "Working Class Hero - The Definitive Lennon" (2005): it combines the best JL tracks in their remixed (2000-2005) form.
