@johnboden84303 жыл бұрын
@@91dodgespiritrt Indeed it is. I think we can include Ghandi in the list, possibly Jesus as well (using a fairly broad idea of socialism perhaps). There are so many people who have tried in their own way to motivate and inspire people to live together harmoniously. John Lennon shines out for me because he could put the message in such a poetic form. Sorry if I rambled on a bit there but your reply led to a good line of thought.

Of all the Beatles songs he wrote or co-wrote, I believe that 200 years from now, THIS is the song John Lennon will be best remembered for. It is a landmark piece of art. And as much as it pains me deeply to say it, it's no wonder he was murdered. Such a beautiful dreamer would never be allowed to live in this world. We miss you, John. RIP.

I knew you would give a well thought out and deeply felt reaction. Thank you. This is an extraordinary song. Throughout the song John strips away all the things that cause suffering and strife in the world and makes us realize just how simple it is to imagine a beautiful world. He also acknowledges that all human beings simply want this simple peace and harmony with one another. I don't know of any song which can do this as quickly, or simply or as deeply.

IMAGINE by John "Lennon was inspired by several poems from wife Yoko Ono's 1964 book Grapefruit... Lennon later explained that the song "should be credited as a Lennon/Ono song. A lot of it - the lyric and the concept - came from Yoko, but in those days I was a bit more selfish, a bit more macho, and I sort of omitted her contribution, but it was right out of Grapefruit." And "Lennon composed the song one morning in early 1971. It was written on a Steinway piano, in a bedroom at his Tittenhurst Park home in Ascot. Yoko Ono watched on as he composed the melody, chords and most of the lyrics, and nearly completed the whole song in one short writing session." Taken from "The Story of... 'Imagine' by John Lennon" by Tom Eames (October 2020).

It's hard to imagine (see what I did there?) how someone could get this far into life without hearing this song! But since this is my first time seeing your obviously genuine reaction, I guess anything is possible, right? I've been listening to The Beatles and John Lennon since the early days, and their first Ed Sullivan appearance. This is my favorite Lennon song, I just have to hear it when everything seems to be going wrong. And it's just not Christmas without a listen to Happy Xmas. Sadly, there will never be another John Lennon, or another Beatles.

John Lennon about this song ; "The song ‘Imagine,’ which says, Imagine that there was no more religion, no more country, no more politics is virtually the communist manifesto, even though I am not particularly a communist and I do not belong to any movement. You see, ‘Imagine’ was exactly the same message, but sugar-coated. Now ‘Imagine’ is a big hit almost everywhere; anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic song, but because it is sugar-coated it is accepted. Now I understand what you have to do." ~ John Lennon
