Eric Metaxas and Socrates in the City present an evening with John Lennox, Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University, at the Union Club in New York City on January 31, 2013. Dr. Lennox explores a method for reading and interpreting the first chapters of Genesis without discounting either science or Scripture. Afterward Metaxas is heard asking, "Why didn't I ever have any math teachers like this?"

@@stanstevens6289 Stan, God is not going to give you proof, (unless and until you already believe) You have it backwards, God doesn't justify himself to you, a man... He doesn't have to prove himself to you, you have to prove yourself to him. You have to choose. If God gave you "proof" proof that satisfies your rebellious and prideful heart, then that'd be easy for you. If God gave you the proof you want, you wouldn't have that hard of a time struggling to believe in, and to love your creator. No, you won't get your proof so long as your heart is hardened in your self loving conceit. God is going to require for you to make a choice... God want's you to love him and to choose him, but he will not take your privilege of moral agency away from you! So keep demanding proof of existence from a God that created you, good luck on that...

I have seen the video on Dr. Lennox but never listen to it until one evening I took time to listen..it's really eye opening..until at this age (54) as an educator, I really have no confidence on my Christian Belief as compatible with science. I never dare to speak and tell my faith before other scientists... but thanks God...listening to Dr. Lennox.. my spirit leaps up....

why? because he agrees with your religious beliefs? Hawking's contributions to science lasted his whole life. Lennox's to mathematics, while significant- unlike those of Berlinski- were not at the same level and dried up years ago. So what is he much and you mean MUCH better at than Hawking- other than being better at agreeing with your religious views?

The length of the day in Genesis is clearly defined as evening/morning. So perhaps not explicitly 24hrs. However, the creation of plants on the third day makes it difficult to maintain an unlimited length of day without the Sun, Moon and animals that follow later. Exodus 20 does makes explicit reference to the creation week as a template for how people should pattern their days, which would more naturally favour the 24hr (or thereabouts) view.

Marcus O'Ruiari You mean the collapse of the pseudo-theory of Evolution. Misrepresentations and outright FalseHood: Piltdown Hoax, Neanderthal man...., Haeckel's Embryos Fraud.....* Speculative Interpolation: Macroev not testable or demonstrable in a laboratory Invalid Patterns of Logical Inference: Homology Fallacy. Golf and Egg have structural similarites therefore they have a "common ancestor" Lack of Transitional Forms in fossil record. Sophistry: The initial evidence and mechanism proposed by Darwin largely discarded by the "New Synthesis" or Neo Darwinians which in turn is questioned by those of "punctuated equilibrium" fame. Not supported by solid statistical and probabilistic calculations. Extremely unlikely if not impossible for amino acid sequences to occur by chance. Incapable of answering how the information in the genetic code DNA computer program arose "spontaneously". Ever meet a book in the library that didn't have an author??? Ever meet a computer program that wrote itself??? Ever meet a computer that assembled itself and then booted itself up by itself? The fool is confident and rages on that all this happened millions of years ago. The Great Logician Kurt Godel wrote in a letter to Hao Wang his biographer: "The formation within geologic time of a human body by the laws of physics (or any other laws of similiar nature) is as unlikely as the separation by chance of the atmosphere into its components." * Gould argued that Haeckel’s drawings are simply inaccurate and falsified. On the other hand, one of those who criticized Haeckel's drawings, Michael Richardson, has argued that "Haeckel's much-criticized drawings are important as phylogenetic hypotheses, teaching aids, and evidence for evolution". But even Richardson admitted in Science Magazine in 1997 that his team's investigation of Haeckel's drawings were showing them to be "one of the most famous fakes in biology." Some version of Haeckel’s drawings can be found in many modern biology textbooks in discussions of the history of embryology, with clarification that these are no longer considered valid. (from wikipedia)

I loved his comment about cars having common features because they were made by a common mind. I have had that thought before. Looking at airplanes, cars, wagons, trains, and anything with wheels on it (assuming it's not a skipper airplane), someone who didn't know better and who had never seen a human before might end up thinking that these things all arose from a common mechanical ancestor... and, in a way they did.... I mean, the wagon preceeded the train, the train the car, the car, the airplane, the airplane the space shuttle, etc.... but they didn't mindlessly grow out of each other. They grew out of the intelligent design of a common mind, the human mind. Granted, biology is much more complex and involves reproduction and things, but I don't think that makes the comparison a bad one. As a matter of fact, with such complexity, and with such vast differences between distinct forms of animals, one might even say that this comparison applies even more.

I truly enjoy listening to John Lennox! In this lecture, (if I understood him correctly) he says that he sees in scripture that sin brought death only to humans, but I see it differently because of a few passages that I have taken to mean that the entire creation (universe) is subject to death (decay) because of sin, and that a day will come when death/decay will cease. As such, I wish I was able to ask him for instance his understanding of the passage in Romans 8 that says... Romans 8:19-22 - "For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time." ...I might be persuaded to believe that the word "creation" used in the text might specifically refer to the creation of man only, were it not for the use of the words "whole creation" in verse 22, as that seems to leave no room for the idea of limiting it to only the creation of man.

As I understand, death has been around for millions of years and is not the result of sin. What St. Paul is doing, in my view, is setting up the dilemma of humanity through the Genesis myth in order to write on the significance of Jesus Christ who deals with sin and death.

So I cast my self upon the rock the Spirit of Jehovah came upon me I began speaking in a unknown tongue however in my mind I was asking God why things had turned out so bad and the Lord God Almighty spoke to my mind the inner man my very being he said"I created everthing, everthing created, I created- hills! The Lord spoke these 8 simple words with absolute power and authority wasn't the answer I was looking for however any doubt in my mind ended that day I live with absolute belife and bodly proclaim the Gospel to whoever will 👂 Semah.
