Ooohh this makes me so happy! 😊I have been preaching this sermon for years. I am a music teacher..I have been sent by God, young girls who needs creativity bc they are lost in their identity and they don't know how to claim space for their views and feelings. I saw these precious souls able to express themselves and expel bottled up emotions when given a song of their choice to sing.. Art is healing and it helps a person to identify who he/ she is & what he/she is all about. The arts also brings purpose to life for some.. What each individual thinks, feels and believes in is very important to each soul as it gives them a voice and a valid place to belong while here on earth.

I'm a music teacher and songwriter. I responded to the song "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man o' Mine," from the musical "Showboat," with: "Don't need a boyfriend, Don't need a date. Don't need a girlfriend To make me feel great. Won't Stop Respecting That Self of Mine.... Pm me for the rest of my parody. The women's chorus at a local high school liked my version better than the original.

"gods" are narcissistic self- delusions. Singing, however, is a manifestation of delight, and as the texts more ancient than that evil bible, the Universe is Composed of Delight. You would not live without hedonic pleasure. Lions, by the way, murder the offspring of other males. so Lewis and his inaccurate analogies, was just a dimwitted messianist.

All fine and good as long as art, music etc., do not become ‘God’ in themselves: we worship God first and always first. Youngsters (and many adults) should be reminded of this, or else it becomes idolatry.
@peggyuser-oq6xz7fg9o10 ай бұрын
@@afterlate8866 Such an important footnote to keep in mind. I have had struggles with this myself to some degree. I remind myself often with a paraphrase of Jesus by thinking to myself, "She who loves music more than Me is not worthy of Me." It's a challenge to work it out sometimes but necessary.
@andrewhague15219 ай бұрын
@@afterlate8866 That is a rather silly comment. Not making idols applies to almost every human activity. The thing about the arts is that they can capture truth that cannot be articulated in any other way. I have found that when people really come to an 'at one' experience with Christ. Where Christ becomes both centre and periphery, they discover a new joy in the arts. They find Christ in the music they listen to, the books they read, the art they behold and the films they watch. And they are drawn towards the kind of art that expresses in ways that words cannot something of the reality of who God is. 'He who sings prays twice.'

He worked miracles, healed the sick, cast out demons fortold the future, raised the dead, and fulfilled hundreds of Old Testament prophecies. For 8 prophecies to happen by chance is mathematically impossible. Now, you can see why Christianity is based on true faith not blind faith. Science on the other hand changes constantly so beleiving in science is based on blind faith. Science does nothing! People do science and Scientists can and do tell lies. The more we learn from following the scientific method, which came from the Bible, the more our eyes are opened to the truth by discovery. We are still blind to knowing all the truth just as the Bible stated, so their is a blind faith required to believe in scientific evidence. It changes all the time. If Darwin was alive today he wouldn't believe in EVOLUTION! It's scientifically and mathematically impossible, yet millions of people still believe it to be true, with blind faith. As an artist who loves listening to Proff. Lennox, I wasn't expecting a talk on art. Thank you! The new atheists are clearly not artists, or don't see art's connection with science. Numerous times, I have heard them throw in a remark about the wastefulness of God in leaving so much emptiness in space...presumably, their walls are hung like the Royal Academy, with Where's Wally? pictures, with every square cm filled with detail. God has better taste. He knows the value of spacesbetweenwords, pauses in music and speech, quiet times, open spaces, great skies. He knows the precious value of silence and the importance of a day off and a holiday. He marries art, science, craftsmanship and his character in His creation and His sustaining of it. May He sustain our dear brother John to walk with Him. 🙂

Same here, I'm an artist that loves listening to Professor Lennox. I remember channel surfing years ago and then landing on some channel with a random scientist sitting in a room stuffed full of life support equipment. He said that the human placenta performed all the functions of all those clunky boxes. I was immediately brought to tears as I was pregnant with my first child at the time. The sight of all that cold metallic man-made stuff being compared to the warm organic and simple complexity of God's design struck me with awe and reverence for our great creator -- how amazing he is! Then that bloke opened his wretched mouth and ruined what he had said by saying something like, "It's too bad evolution couldn't make it possible for a woman to walk normally in her third trimester instead of walking like a duck." I wanted to reach in that screen and SLAP that fool! Evolutionists are the some of the most intellectually and spiritually bankrupt of people, they are as shallow as the ocean is deep. Nothing can be made without our great God and Savior, the LORD Jesus Christ, nothing! The light of God in some people is marvelous to behold: C.S. Lewis, Rabbi Sachs and now John Lennox. God has in no wise left us without witnesses who see more than others and testify to it. May God have mercy on this generation and raise up more witnesses and labourers in every field and make His light in them more evident even than His light in John Lennox. And may the Holy Spirit speak through them and alone to convict of sins and judgements and that righteousness, rightness with the author of creation, is only through the life work and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. Lord have mercy. So many people are just being indoctrinated to hear like Lewis's Uncle Andrew only thinking of God as snarling,if at all. And not recognising the very song that brought them into being and is sustaining their lives and is the fount of every blessing. LORD have mercy. In Jesus's name Amen.

So much wisdom and truth! So much food for thought. It makes me want to take time to learn for myself and to ponder God’s creations that we see every day and foolishly take for granted. Most of all, it makes me want to be a better person and a better example of a believer.

Such INSPIRATION! And wisdom about art, ART is so connected to spirit. As we become technically astute at capturing images invisible to the human eye, we will one day, not only feel but see the spirit that art emanates and radiates. HALLELUJAH!
