I’ve huge respect for Lydon - one of the best. I’ve never held it against him for getting The Pistol’s back together for tours. We all have to make a living. What else is he going to do? And when he did the butter adverts - that was to fund the recording of an album by Pil. He’s not exactly rich like Mick Jagger. He is an honest man, but he has always wanted to control the narrative of the Sex Pistols. The recent lawsuit between Steve Jones, Paul Cook and himself was a low point for sure. Their forthcoming show is based on Jones book, who’s point of view is just as valid as Lydon’s. Lydon personifies the word “difficult”, but any man who stands by his wife when she has alzheimers is alright by me. I’ve not seen this interview before, probably because Jonathan Ross gets on my nerves lol. Thank you for this.

Then you're an idiot. If you think that taking a stance on any political problem involves staring into a camera like a vision-impaired imbecile is anything other than a money-making tactic, then you're a half-headed clown. PS that "lady's part", Lydon, agreeing with you can be safely ignored.

Sure he's standing by his wife Nora, but he would stand stronger by her side if he didn't still drink too much booze, smoke cigarettes and eat mostly junk food (he's admitted all of that in recent videos). And Lydon is not an honest man, he's an open man. Mostly he has peddled BS his entire life.
@edwardmulholland79123 жыл бұрын
@@dmerls8571 There is truth there - unfortunately. There is an article in the NME today where Steve Jones and Paul Cook have reacted to his appearance on Good morning Britain. I believe them - but I think it’s important to realize the pressure Lydon is under right now - his wife Nora is literally dying in front of his eyes. That will fuck anyone up - it’s important to have empathy for people who are struggling, and Lydon is struggling. Anyone who has had a loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s will know this. That’s why I give Lydon the benefit of the doubt. Just because I think he is honest doesn’t mean I think he is always in the right. Cut the guy some slack - he deserves that at least.

I don't always agree with him and have often criticised him in comments but what seems to really have upset people is that as he got older he changed, his opinions changed and this upsets some people who hang onto the coattails of punk. Punk, followed by post punk, became a stagnant, uniformed parody of itself with Marxists trying to control the narrative/history, for an example read Simon Reynolds book on post punk, he criticises Lydon for being an individualist and not a collectivist. In it some bands are given about three pages if they're not rabbiting on about the struggle whereas Scritti Politi were given, if I remember correctly, sixteen pages because they were middle class Marxists like the author. I didn't notice this the first time I read it but noticed the second time because I'd changed since the first time and actually notice stuff like that now. Re Steve Jones, I also bought and read Lonely Boy on release and in part of it he talks about the Harley Davidson club he's in with Paul Simonon and actors and bankers and they ride around the Hollywood hills on their bikes. It's how the world works, people change.

Just because someone is "honest," doesn't mean they are telling the truth.

Wait, the quote "you might not like me but at least I'm damn honest" is where he says he'd never reform the Pistols no matter how much he was offered. 5 years later he's doing a world tour for the money. So much for the much reputed honesty then

I've always had a huge soft spot for John. Big PIL fan to this day. But he does talk a lot of shite sometimes. "never...I don't repeat myself" - sure John, that didn't last long did it? Then you look at how utterly devoted he was to Nora, how relatable he always manages to be despite the spiky persona, you take in his body of work, how often he's just right about things long before anyone else has the courage to say it. Well, the world is better for him being in it, that's a fact.

Never a man more diverse. Changed his more times than the wind direction. Probably the meningitis made him unique.
