This man was an utter genius, is now grossly underrated and is possibly one of the finest guitarists of all time.

Had a bar room fight with John Martyn in '92 (he lost his temper) Didn't stop me appreciating his incredible talent. Had a big influence on my songwriting and performance. Have a listen.

Legend. My father was well connected with the Glasgow music scene and told me this wee story…..apparently when John was taken in to hospital for septicaemia, news of course got out to his many friends in the music scene. When the grim news was shared that he was losing his leg, another famous Glaswegian musician, who obviously coveted his sound was reported to have said ‘well he’ll not be needing that pedal, I’ll take it…’

This guitar and vocal live production is world class. Still sounds better than almost everyone

Ed Sheeran must’ve watched this… and given/subjected us to his “Wish” version… This… THIS is astonishing… as a guitarist and techy nerd, I am enthralled by how those layers of Echoplex tape blend, blur, and bastardise the raw acoustic feed… it’s harmonised, Leslie’d and from the heavens!

A debt of influence should be paid to his early mentor, Glasgow laddie Hamish Imlach, who taught him guitar. The hard slapback finger playing style is all of Iain's own, however. His roadie, Arthur was a good friend of mine, we studied English together at trade union bastion Ruskin College, Oxford. and he told me a lot about this misunderstood, but unfortuntely very violent man. He beat wives regularly. Bad man, big musical gift. Hard to square.

Set the standard and influenced sooo many whether they know it or not, way ahead of his time and now sorely missed 😢
