Yeah ay he had a mad range of massive self invented blue jazz cool folk cross rock with a voice sliding, twisting, rolling and bellowing like animated oil, honey, Bovril and grit on a polished floor- genius. My favourite was Sapphire, i think.. i know, losing the memory.. thing. I've lost all my vinyl, tapes, cds many times...theft, loss, misplacement, erroneous lending practices, earthquake damage, being kicked out of countries, you know how it goes haha- true but

A mate of mine bought a vinyl record from London on holiday to me ( I live in Ireland ) played it to death first time hearing ‘may you never’ think it was solid air. Went onto buy most of the albums on vinyl and then cd. It’s essential to have John martyn in your collection of music. A lot of songs here in the concert are not his songs it doesn’t matter love his soul in his vocal. I grew up with JM right through marriage and children JM covered most aspects of life in his music. Saw him 3/4 times . Love him always play him often! Good luck with Grace and Danger

Many times, the most tortured and sensitive souls are the greatest artists. That's why anti-depressants (along with a lack of industry investment) have killed so much of modern music. Like Geezer Butler said, he used to self-medicate with music, drinking and drugs while today he never writes or plays because he started on prescription medications.

John Martyn legend is an understatement for this man, he was like best guitarist, best vocalist, best lyricist all in one. His performances range from troubled and terrible to so very memorable and excellence bettered by none. Thank you so much for your music 🎶 and legacy RIP John Martyn

I absolutely love John Martyn's music, but technically he wasn't the best singer, or indeed guitar player, not by a very long way. But being technically brilliant doesn't guarantee the music will be brilliant. I think John's brilliance comes from his unique and natural deficiencies in perfection, because it gives his music character.

Seen John with this band in Edinburgh and they complimented his music well. He walked on and his first words were "anyone got a smoke?"😀 He made us feel so relaxed it was like we were in his living room and spoke to us just like he knew us for many years. Then the music started and WOW!!! what a groove, what a sound, what a band, so tight, then the icing on the cake, that voice Mmmmmmh! John joked and laughed in between songs and constantly changed the Phrasing and sound of his voice from the original. Top class stuff from a talented musician. Thanks for the memories John.
