Had the honour and pleasure of promoting a concert by John in Norwich a few decades ago. A few small posters round town, worrying if many would come, and it was packed out, with locals and people from other parts of the UK who'd traveled just to not miss another concert! He didn't disappoint. One World.

If this had the studio version's BV's, it would be unbeatable. Still, can't stop listening. That acoustic tone is class.

What is the matter with you people? How dare you put your judgements on this incredible man and musician. He was one of a kind, never to be replaced. And like he said himself: " I chose the vehicle and I chose the road. Don't blame anyone else but me. And it made me sing the blues. And it was all just for fun". John Martyn sings for the angels now. And actually, to be even more true: When he sang here on earth, the angels descended down here just to hear him.

I just love this man. Although he had died prior to my being exposed to his music, John Martyn has become my second favorite musician (right behind Jerry Garcia). I am so happy every time I find a new John Martyn CD in my mailbox! He is an amazing musician, singer and songwriter. God bless you, John Martyn!

Well, dear Gravey68689. By the sound of it, this one song is all you have heard from John Martyns rather vast catalogue. Because if you have had any experience of J M music. You would know what I mean, and that my words come from the greatest respect and love for all the inspiration and unforgettable songs that JM gave us.

Always nice to hear stuff from 'And'; it was a shock when I heard it first, but it's really grown on me, 'specially this one, and 'Sunshines Better'.

It is VERY apparent what an EXCELLENT musician and artist you were, John. It's a great pity that you enjoyed abusing yourself so much...to the point of destruction, unfortunately. However, rest in peace and THANK YOU for the fantastic legacy that you left the world, in the form of your music!!! From the Poseur!!

Fun fact - it was me who originally taped this videoclip at home in 1995, and years later I found it on an old VHS tape and transferred it to DVD. I uploaded it briefly to KZbin following John's death in early 2009, and I deleted it soon after. Obviously someone copied this video during the brief time that it was on KZbin, hence the inferior quality copy that you see here. I still have the original, and it is far better quality than this.

Big respect to the bass man. Any relation to Danny?

Well, my friend. You see, I was using symbolic words there. The purpose of such expression is to describe something that goes beyond the actual words. In this case simply trying to convey how much I myself, among so many others, loved this brilliant mans music. Hence the lingo. If you ever get your hands on a book and actually manage to read a page or two, you might be in for a surprise..

The title of this song is actually SUSAN & not to be confused with the Leonard Cohen classic, Suzanne, as referred to here. Nice tune. Nice post !

Who is on bass and drums Though?
@ianhepplewhite83342 жыл бұрын
I think it is Karl van den Bossche. I saw him when John was touring just before the release of his ‘And’ album and Karl was with him and the sound of his percussion was superb; he had silver symbols that seemed to have a different sound quality. A live double album was released called ‘And Live’ that Karl is on. I bought a special release of the Steve Winwood album ‘Nine Lives’, which had a DVD included and Karl was filmed playing in the group of musicians. Karl is quite prominent in the mix on that album, which is a really good recording as is John Martyn’s ‘And Live’, which is a wonderful as you hear quite a bit of chat before and after some tracks, and when John realises he has cocked up the lyrics on ‘Rock Salt & Nails’ he goes, “Whoops”! 😁
