Courtesy of the Clark Santee archives, this rare performance of British blues legend John Mayall (on harmonica) and his latest incarnation of the Bluesbreakers coincided with Mayall's permanent move to Los Angeles. During the 1960's Mayall's Bluesbreakers introduced the world to magnificent talents (such as Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, John McVie, and others) that achieved greater heights with illustrious careers in music.

I saw Duster Bennet live years ago, brilliant on his own too. I'd completely forgot, till I came across this on the tube. Saw John Mayall live too, at Gloucester Regal, doing 'Turning point' . Brilliant show.

Not even close. The founding fathers of the Blues originated in the Mississippi Delta, long before Mayall was even born.

Duster Bennett is singing variations around the chorus of "Let's Get Together" by Jimmy Reed. The verses could be drawn from other songs or his own improvisation. A fantastic piece of footage finally seeing light of day.

That must have been when he was pissed and attempted to jump from a balcony into a swimming pool and missed! Apparently he really messed up his heel and was left with a permanent limp afterwards.

Seen him live twice. In 1973, again in 2009. In 73 it was a full band of about 9 guys including Freddie Robinson on guitar, Keef Hartley on drums & Blue Mitchell on trumpet. They really cooked. In 2009 it was a stripped down band, just him & a 4 piece band. I don't know who the guitarist was but, as you might expect, anyone playing with Mayall is gonna be good, He was, he tore it up.
