I’ve been playing guitar for A LONG time and this song is very very tricky. It has a lot of poly Rhythm and is very hard to get down and sing. Even JM struggles with it live and he wrote the damn thing. The only thing wrong with this song is the title. Should be called. ‘Just a Wave’ not Emoji....just my opinion. Bring on the hate 😂 love y’all anyway!!

Michael Wood it ain’t that bad this was actually a pretty easy song for me too learn but hey Neon WTLI was one of the first Mayer songs I learned from him. If you think this is hard check out Queen of California vevo acoustic sessions. That took me a little while to get down to sing it cause the rhythm is so fast but once you get it, you got it. Idk once I get something once I keep it and it becomes instinct. One thing about this song is John always plays it different everytime so if you get the chord progressions down it will sound good

Michael Wood I agreed at first “Just a Wave” would be a better title. Then found a KZbin video of him explaining why it’s called emoji of a wave and it’s a very touching story. Would highly recommend watching the video it’s only a few mins!
